I have been working on album containing fakes, forgeries and fantasies as an in-between work project from my inflation collection. One of the items I have acquired for my collection was produced as a promotional item in 1978 for the book release of "SS-GB" by Len Deighton. I have a basic idea of the story here, issued in 1978 and then confiscated/destroyed early on. I'm looking for a couple of things to add into this group, the postcard issued and the bookmark as well. I would also like to know some numbers if anyone has them, such as how many booklets were produced, confiscated/destroyed and (guesstimate) how many left over. I believe that this story is hitting the BBC as a mini-series, so, what stamp items may have been produced and if any, how to get them! Look forward to hearing back from members!!

Can you give us a little background expanded? Who was the printer/designer? Were these available to the public? Perhaps sold to pay printing costs?

I don't have alot of back ground on the booklet. They were given away with the review copies of the book in 1978 (which is a common practice) as a promotion to the upcoming book release. These booklets, from what I was able to track down, were designed by Raymond Hawkey (a key figure in the designs of the James Bond books)and produced by Jonathan Cape (another key figure with James Bond books). Story goes that early in the promotion the GPO (British postal authority) viewed them "dimly" so they were recalled and destroyed. The public eventually got them, as the review books would have been sent to book dealers to read and decide if they wish to carry the title. I'm sure book dealers kept these and some gave them away as well.
As to the new BBC production. I'm trying to track those down as well and see if I can get a small group to add into my collection as well.

I'm still looking for an original postcard, but will be a little more careful about the reproductions. Do you have any images on the reproduction postcard? I know that there is a reproduction of the booklet, but have not been able to dig out any more information or images of that item either! That souvenir sheet looks like a product out of Taiwan. There are a number of different versions from Taiwan out there, I just haven't collected up any of those images.

This is a breakdown of the stamp types. This will show all the known types together, which helps with weeding out bad stamps from good stamps.
