I might also add that all the values for the 1850 issue can be plated by position, fairly easily (with the right reference book). The only forgery I am aware of that share characteristics of the genuine stamps are Sperati's forgeries. The particular positions that Sperati copied his from are known. So if, say, a 6r from 1850 can be plated and it doesn't correspond to one of the positions Sperati used, then it's highly likely a genuine stamp.
