I had previously suggested something akin to STAMP-CON to mimic more modern show names but the show would need to be more diverse - more than dealers, exhibits, and few interesting seminars.
I doubt any current show attendee would stop going due to dramatic name change so no nee to play it safe.

Vote now for the APS show name Update - 9/27/2019 - the original form from September 25 has been closed and a new voting form opened. New details below.Earlier this month, we asked for your help with a huge project - brainstorming a new name for the annual APS show - and you came through for us with over 600 suggestions. We narrowed that long list of names down to our top four options, with the help of the APS marketing team, the American Topical Association, and the American First Day Cover Society. Many people have asked for a fifth option to be added to the list of show names, and we've heard your voices. Please welcome our new contender: StampShow. We now need your help (again) to choose the name of the annual APS show. If you already voted - thank you! - please cast a new vote in the updated form. The name with the most votes will be the new name of the annual American Philatelic Society show, and will officially be used for the first time for the joint APS/ATA/AFDCS show in Hartford, CT in 2020. Great American Stamp Show Stampfest StampCon Stampapalooza StampShow Click through to our form below to cast your vote. The closing date is still Friday, October 4th, at 11:59 p.m. EDT. I doubt the name will change. I did not vote. StampCon is a take off of ComicCon.

Introducing Great American Stamp Show: a new name for a new era
In September, you sent in your suggestions. You voted between five name options. And you agreed in overwhelming numbers: the new name of the largest stamp collecting event of the year is GREAT AMERICAN STAMP SHOW Thank you to the nearly 3,000 people who cast a vote - your passion for our annual show has never been more obvious, and we look forward to channeling this energy into Great American Stamp Show 2020, which will be in Hartford, CT this August. From APS Executive Director Scott English: “A new era brings a new name. We’re looking forward to bringing together the American Philatelic Society, American Topical Association, and American First Day Cover Society under the Great American Stamp Show umbrella. Thank you to all the creative minds who contributed to name suggestions and those people who voted in the poll. Over the last two years, we’ve worked and succeeded at making this annual show one of the best reasons to be a collector. Start making plans to join us in Hartford in August 2020 to see the next evolution in this live event!” American First Day Cover Society president Lloyd A. de Vries told us: "We know the addition of our Americover to what was already a very good stamp collecting show will make this event ‘great’.” The final tally for votes is as follows: Great American Stamp Show, 1402 StampShow, 747 StampFest, 441 StampCon, 263 Stampapalooza, 78 Stay tuned for news about Great American Stamp Show, information about exhibits and the dealer bourse, plans for seminars and show meetings, and details on exciting new events. Great American Stamp Show 2020 will bring together our great stamp collecting community like never before, and we're excited to share our plans for the show with you. President of the American Topical Assocation, Dawn Hamman, says "This wonderful collaboration of three great organizations now has a wonderful new name. Hartford, here we come!" ~~~~~~~~~~~

The virus has forced all sorts of entities to increase their online presence -- APS having done so isn't that surprising in the current context.

I have always been an advocate of APS being more online. I had suggested the Summer Seminar be done online but the response was they prefer on site. My wish has come true.

Great American Stamp Show Update5/20/2020 As Connecticut slowly reopens, plans for Great American Stamp Show continue. We have been in regular communications with event staff and the leadership of the Connecticut Convention Center. Based on those conversations, we expected to provide more clarity to those interested in attending our annual convention by May 15, 2020. At present, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont is working with state officials to implement a four-phase plan to restart the state’s economy. His most recent order to lift the stay at home restrictions ends on May 20, 2020. At that time, the state will be evaluating these plans. At this point, we continue to work with our partners at the American Topical Association and the American First Day Cover Society to plan. Many dealers and exhibitors are planning and members are still registering to attend the show, slated for August 20-23, 2020. Our first priority in planning for the event is the health and safety of our members, dealers, and guests. Given the current state of affairs and a lack of clear guidance from the State of Connecticut and the Connecticut Convention Center, we are unable to provide more information at this time. We will update members as soon as possible and continue to press for a firm decision within weeks. If we are unable to move ahead with the Great American Stamp Show, all payments by exhibitors, dealers, and members to the APS will be fully refunded. On behalf of our partners, thank you for the patience, understanding, and support from the APS, ATA, and AFDCS members as we navigate a very challenging situation.

APS Stamp Chats UpdateAPS has great programming ahead. In honor of Women's History Month, Charlene Blair, of the National Museum of African Americans on Stamps joins them Tuesday, March 9th at 3 PM EST. They're also hosting a Live "Ask a Dealer" on Wednesday with Chatty Award winners, Michael Cortese and Charles Epting from Conversations with Philatelists; this Live Q&A is meant to support this month's American Philatelist, The Stamp Collectors Buyers Guide. The Stamp Chat " Social and Historical Research through Philately" with Cheryl Ganz, Trish Kaufmann and Marjory Sente is now available. It's a fantastic panel discussion, particularly if you're interested in postal history. APS is hosting part 2 of The Future of Philately: Online Exhibiting on March 17th. If you have questions or comments for the panelists, please send an email so they may be included in the discussion. If you didn't watch the first presentation, you can view it here. Check out the Stamp Chat page so you can mark your calendar accordingly. Thanks to the support of the Mighty Buck Club, APS has Stamp Chats coming to us from around the hobby from now through December! Your generous support of just $12/year yields mighty results.
