Are you collecting current US commemoratives and what do you think of them? I use new USPS stamps for all my mailings (I'm a part time eBay seller - molander) as I like using them and my customers apprectiate them (for the most part). Overall I've been pleased with the quality of the new issues except that issues like the recent JFK issue that has die cut strips separating the stamps so that when you peel them off, sometimes the dividing piece pulls off as well and sticks to an adjacent stamp and can cause damage removing it. I prefer the stamps with the die cut perforations next to each other for use but understand that it is easier for collectors to divide the stamps into individuals for mounting when there is a strip beteen the stamps. I hsve learned to separate individual mint stamps from the diecut types perforated adjacent to each other without taking them off the backing or cutting the perforations. If you fold the sheet at the die cut and use a sharp knife on the backside, cutting it like you would open a letter, the stamps separate nicely and cleanly if you are careful. The Oscar de La Renta issue is in my opinion, quite impressive in both design and execution of the printing with the very glossy finish. I keep all of what I get in the mail on the original covers. Who else is collecting these?

I don't keep the original covers, but cut the rectangles out of the envelopes. I also save the current US definitives, bulk rate, non-profit, and official stamps the same way. Sorry that this doesn't really respond to your original question! I do think that some of the designs are, however, attractive. And although I do not collect these particular stamps myself, I decide which stamps to buy for using on my mail based on the designs. My wife and I really liked the Katharine Hepburn commems from a few years ago, and we are still working our way through those. My accumulation has been building up for a while now. I am getting ready to find an outlet for them (any suggestions are appreciated).

When they are full I donate them to my stamp club's youth program (and then buy new shoes!). These stamps are more interesting for kids. Some clubs have a monthly mailings for the youth on their list. They are always looking for topical subjects cars, flowers, space. I can put you in touch with a club that does this.

Thanks again!

I collect the new USPS issues, but I don't enjoy a lot of the subjects lately. So many seem frivolous and silly. I long for the old days of historic commemoration on new stamps. I'm actually looking forward to what we may get in a few years for the American Revolution Sestercentennial. Hopefully as much good stuff as we got in 1976.

I only collect them used, when and where I can get them. Gone are the days when national identity and pride were the determining factors in stamp design.

What I collect: A little bit of everything

I collect what I can. My brother's job lets him take them, so he brings me some every week. Sometimes they are missing portions due to the way they were opened, but damaged is better than none at all.
On rare occasions I will purchase a sheet to keep unused, but the subject has to be something that really means a lot to me, like the automotive issues. We just got the Eclipse stamps about a week ago. They are neat...
