This delicate cover caught my eye today because of the YMCA labels on the back. The envelope, which resembles wood, is not in great shape, with a huge tear across the front. The left hand Washington stamp has been reattached (the cancel doesn't line up). But I thought it was a thing of beauty! Once I got it home some more things revealed themselves to me. First of all Camp Lewis was set up in 1917 by the US government with assistance from the YMCA and Red Cross. Here's a history. www.historylink.org/File/8455The cover itself has a hand painted scene on the front in what looks like india ink. It is postmarked in Tacoma Washington, Lewis Br. But it wasn't until I looked at this scan that I realized the big surprise. The postmark is November 11, 1918. THE LAST DAY OF WWI! Sometimes you just get lucky, I guess.
