I posted these covers on SCF way back in 2012, but want to repost here for those who've forgotten, or never seen. Back then I was just starting out in my postal history faze/craze. I'd won a binder of US covers at an estate auction and discover this little collection inside. I want to post because the first of these 1948 covers was postmarked October 9 of that year, the rest on October 10. Tomorrow being October 9, and the 69th anniversary of this little mystery, I thought I'd post now (I'll probably forget tomorrow). All the covers are sent to Mrs Augusta Stange of Meridan Conn. As mentioned the first is postmarked October 9 and contained a card with the same postmark on it. The rest are postmarked on the 10th. What is interesting is all are sent from cities or towns called Augusta, from various states. nod to Mrs Stange no doubt. All addressed by the same hand (Mrs Stange herself, or a friend?) and some are addressed in ink the same colour as the stamp on the cover. A couple of the stamps actually commemorate the states they were sent from. Commemorating a birthday perhaps? I've never been able to find out anything about Mrs Stange. It's been a mystery to be sure. But kinda neat. I'm always on the look out for more. Cool no?
