Normally at this time in the newsletter production cycle I'd be posting a generic "call for material" to prompt both our budding as well as stalwart philatelic authors to either start or finish their submissions for the upcoming newsletter.
Our target date for receiving input for the December-January issue is November 10th; however, we are typically able to accommodate requests for additional time.
Rather than continuing in that fashion, I'd like to instead ask our membership to reply to this thread by posting the types of articles or subject matter that they would like to see published in the newsletter.
My hope is that this input might encourage those with knowledge and/or expertise in the requested subject matter to write about it for the newsletter.
This does not mean that we will reject material that hasn't been requested -- all input is welcome!
Thanks, in advance, for helping us improve the value of the newsletter to our membership.

I would like to see an educational section which is ongoing from issue to issue. For example:
The different papers and coatings used in stamp production (chalk, substitute, calendered, laid, wove, granite, quadrille, burelé etc).
Additional security devices {including experimental} applied in stamp production (grills, exploding caps etc.)
Different printing methods (lithography, typography, recess etc).
Use of different gums.
Undoubtedly these can be found somewhere or other, but I think these sort of subjects would be a very useful as a regularly published supplement to standard (voluntary) articles. It would then be possible for the editorial team to make specific requests for volunteers to write about a certain subject (these needn't be authored by the same person).

Thanks for starting this thread, Steve. What you are now asking is what I have been wondering myself. As for me, I agree with Anping, that articles about the technical aspects of stamp production are always interesting. I always enjoying learning more about how stamps are made, as it is valuable in collecting and identifying individual items. I also really like @falshung's articles about forgeries of classic stamps, and thanks to those, I have now been able to identify forgeries lurking in my collection. Unfortunately, I have no expertise or qualifications whatsoever for writing philatelic articles in either of these areas, which I why I have stuck to more of the "human interest" type of articles, like the "Philatelic Memory" or travelogue pieces. I plan to continue writing the travelogue pieces, as it is about all that I feel qualified to do.

I appreciate the input received thus far and more is sought so don't be shy.
The "educational" section as a regular feature would be a welcome addition to the newsletter.
Are there any members who would be willing to take on one or more such writings?

We're anxiously awaiting submissions for the upcoming Newsletter issue. This and the two preceding issues will comprise our first submission in the APS Newsletter competition so it would be nice to have some member-submitted material in the publication.

For a number of reasons, been a bit slow this time but my article will be with Steve by tomorrow evening. I was hoping to write an extra article, a special about Catalonia (Catalunya) with an insight from a small but select pro-Independence Stamp meeting (with Cinderellas of course). But this will be a project for an article in the next edition of the Newsletter (You have been warned !). Time was not on my side this time. But I have managed to get all the 'lost' PB images back and am now putting them in the TSF Image host ready for editing the posts.....that will be the hard part !!
But all good fun, no ?

February 10th will soon be upon us -- time to start wrapping up those newsletter submissions so Nelson can begin to work his magic on our next issue.
