Apparently Canada Post will be issuing stamp booklets for all 7 Canadian NHL teams shortly. They are already available on eBay - an accidental early release? www.ebay.com/itm/181197956107 Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators booklets

Is this going to be as stupid as the CFL (Football) set from last year. To collect all stamps coils sheets I believe it was over $200. I might be wrong but there was a lot of talk on other forums about it.

I think it will be full of collateral material. But I think the idea of a single booklet for each team is a good one.

Yes Zuzu the are "generic". They seem to be in playoff mode, most players do not grow beards until then. BTW, my teams are the Vancouver Canucks, Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadien, in that order

For a second there, I thought a fight was going to break out. For myself, I prefer collegiate hockey. Badgers, Gophers, Sioux.

Grew up in small(really small) town where although they had other sport teams football ruled(read not soceer).Even a playoff game two hundred miles from home the town, WHOLE town showed up.So for me high school football is only sport I follow.Imagine visiting team from that distance has more people show up than yours who live less than five miles away.

Now there are used examples available on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/331004940735however, they are only offering 6 teams, they are missing the Winnipeg Jets.

Funny there was no mention of the stamps in Details, or on the CP website. I don't even remember reading about them in any of the annual stamp program releases (including the 2014 program). When you posted the booklet images I was puzzled, now that there are pictures of cancelled stamps I am really confused. Initially I thought they were bogus, cinderellas, or something. But now I don't know...
Canada Post has designed and released secret issues before, but the recently announced Superman issue fits the bill as the big surprise for this year. I would be truly surprised if they did back to back secret issues.

This is a really strange issue. I have never seen a Canadian stamp issue released "accidentally" like this before. Another odd thing is the 63c face value - why aren't they "P" stamps? No doubt we will have a January postal rate increase, so they will not see much use without make-up postage.
I did order a Vancouver Canucks stamp booklet from the eBay seller and if I get them before the date of issue, I will maill out some covers.

Is it possible that these fall into the "Picture Postage" category and that they were produced for the NHL or one of its Licensees?
It strikes me as highly unusual that they would be an early release of actual Canada Post issuances and not have any mention in either the philatelic media or by the sellers themselves.

That is a possibility Steve, however the format is not consistent with stamps sold on PicturePostage.ca. I posted an image on the official Canada Post Collectors page on Facebook, but there has not been any comments yet. www.facebook.com/canadianstampcollecting

I just received this from Canada Post through an inquiry I made on there Facebook page:
"Canadian Stamp Collecting/Collectionneurs de timbres canadiens Thanks for bringing this [NHL pre-release] to our attention. We're aware of this situation, we’re investigating and taking action to make sure this doesn't happen again. We're also reminding post offices about the importance of respecting on sale dates, which in this case, for the NHL stamps, is September 3, 2013."
So they are legitimate stamps.

Earlier, I had asked the seller of the ebay listing that you posted where he had acquired the stamps and he replied that someone had purchased them for him at the local post office.
He didn't tell me where that post office was located.
Judging from your post on used examples, my money is on the Mississauga, Ontario PO.

The first seller is in Edmonton. Perhaps the Mississauga seller bought them from the first seller and made the covers.

Just checked the date of sale by the Edmonton seller -- the Vancouver booklet sold on August 27th so the Mississauga seller must have gotten them elsewhere in order to receive an Aug 26 postmark.

I bought the Vancouver booklet from Edmonton, LOL. I guess the booklets could have been released in several areas. They must be in my local post office, they get everything. I will check on the way home from work.

It's really disappointing that these got released before their official release date. I haven't even received my Details magazine as yet for the next quarter

Another odd thing is they are to be placed on sale September 3, but NOTHING on the Canada Post website. The Superman stamps have been announced already, and they go on sale later, September 10.

I can't find them on the Canada Post website either.
The stamp slated for issue on 30 September 2013 "Canada Post Community Foundation" isn't online either.

The NHL stamps are now on the Canada Post website, and at my local post office. There are booklets, coils, and souvenir sheets.
