Hello Guys, Below are two memorial stamps for Egypt President Gamal A.Nasser (1918-1970) from United Arab Republic era . I first found these listed on Stampworld,Postbleed and Colnect as 1971 issue , but going through my newly acquired S.Gibbons 2014 I found it to be listed as 1969 , so I checked Egypt Scott 2013 PDF and it is also listed as 1971 . Can someone explain for me why is it listed as a 1969 issue only in S.Gibbons and listed as 1971 elsewhere ? I am still very fresh to using catalogues so excuse my unsophisticated question

SG will generally post stamps by series which can make finding a stamp easier. Scott and most others are by year above is an example of a QE series from SG with the issue dates in brackets from 1960-1967. So you will see a lot of #a, b, c ... in their listings However the Nasser stamps were issued on their own Feb 1 1971 after his death in 1970.

However the Nasser stamps don't make sense as they are probably not part of a series - they were issued on their own Feb 1 1971 after his death in 1970. Thank you for the clarification falschung and i agree with the above , but i still do not understand why it is listed as 1969 in S.G ??

It is possible that the error was corrected in a more recent version of the catalog.
I don't have any SG catalogs so I'm not able to help on this one.
If none of our members can assist, maybe you can contact the catalog's editor and see what he/she has to say.

Can someone explain for me why is it listed as a 1969 issue only in S.Gibbons and listed as 1971 elsewhere ? Your Gibbons catalogue is the "Stamps of the World" simplified catalogue. They use shortened listings to save space - if you're trying to list every stamp in the world, the catalogue gets real big, so they choose to leave out some information. My SOTW catalogue is a bit older than yours - mine is dated 2008. But I assume your newer edition is still mostly the same as mine. At the front of the catalogue in the "Information for users" section, there is a subsection entitled "Dates of Issue". "The date given at the head of each issue is that of the appearance of the earliest stamp in the series." The first stamp in this series was issued in 1969 and that's the only date they will show in the simplified SOTW catalogue, even though some of the other stamps were issued in later years. Gibbons has many volumes of more detailed catalogues which include more information. In the case of Egypt, you can find this info in Part 19, Middle East. This is a catalogue which lists countries like Egypt, Iran, Iraq, etc. in more detail. Part 19 is also where you would find stamps from Lebanon. Here is what this series looks like in Part 19 - the info is mostly the same, but it does include the dates you were wondering about. Ryan

Ryan , thank you for taking the time to accurately clarifying my inquiry, reading catalogue listings is still a bit confusing for me.
