While performing my daily ritual of checking numerous saved ebay searches for new listings, I came across an item that I’d never seen before and immediately knew that I had to add it to my Iwo Jima stamp (Scott 929) collection. Patiently waiting for the auction’s close, I entered a robust bid with only seconds remaining (yes, I snipe and am proud of it!) and became the new owner of a nice copy of the third issue of Thrilling Adventures in Stamps Comics. Some research revealed that a total of eight bi-monthly issues of this comic book series were published by Youthful Magazine, Inc. at Canton, Ohio between October 1, 1951 and January, 1953. The title of the final issue (No. 8) was changed slightly by dropping the word “Comics.” The Iwo Jima stamp was featured on the cover of the comic book I had won (Issue No. 3, February 1952) and the book’s content also included stories on the other U.S. and foreign stamps appearing on the cover. This page is representative of the manner in which each of the stamps was addressed. The content of all eight issues can be viewed here. If you’ve got examples of comic books or strips about postage stamps or stamp collecting that are in the public domain please share them on this thread.

Those are great, right up my street. I love these type of things, including old stamp magazines and snippets from newspapers. I will check out the link but would like the paper versions, something else to keep an eye out for. How many did you win ? All eight ?

...How many did you win ? All eight ? I only won the third issue in the series and it is likely the only one I'll ever have. Since that acquisition, I've seen some reprints on Amazon and two issues on HipComic.

Steve, I am not 100% sure, but I think that there was an article either in Linn's Stamp News or American Philatelist sometime in the past 2-3 years about these stamp-themed comic books. I apologize for just dropping this comment with no research behind it, but I am rather pressed for time at the moment in preparation for my upcoming move to France in 3 weeks, and I just don't have the time to look into it. But I am pretty sure that I recall reading something in one of those two periodicals about this series.

You are correct -- the article by Steve Swain was in the November 2017 issue of The American Philatelist.
