I have always had a special connection to this stamp. My Dad, now retired, was Chaplain in the US Army and served in Vietnam during the 66-67 period. He was in the Special Forces so airborne qualified. We lived overseas a lot (3 years in Germany, 4 years on Okinawa).

The remarkable story of these Chaplains' selflessness and compassion is described here.

The intent of this thread was to encourage all to post stamps with some special or connection. You may have more than one.

Not a stamp, but a cover (hope that counts). I've shown this one before, but this seems appropriate. Searching eBay for some items to round up an exhibit last year, I came across this 1959 cover. The corner card is of an artist in my hometown of St. Catharines named Harry G. Harley. Harry was my uncle, my mother's baby brother, and one of the reasons I became an artist.

My personal connection to these stamps is that I worked for the Van Geest company from age 16-24 The vessels on these stamps are MV Geestport and SS Geestland - two of several ships the company owned for shipping bananas and other produce destined for the UK. Geestport Geestland

14th Boy Scout World Jamboree Lillehammer, Norway - 1975
As a 16-year-old Eagle Scout in the summer of 1975, I had the very good fortune to attend the 14th World Jamboree in Lillehammer, Norway -- a place, which at that time, was relatively unknown. Nearly 20 years later, Lillehammer became famous as the site for the XVII Olympic Winter Games in 1994. But in the summer of 1975, it was a place high in the mountains of Norway that no one had ever heard of, which turned out to be a great place for a campout of thousands of Scouts from around the world. There were many memorable experiences there for me, but the best was called simply "The Hike", in which an international patrol was established at random, of Scouts from all over the world, who hiked together through the mountains for 2-3 days. Our patrol leader was from Norway, and then we had one Scout each from Canada, Switzerland, South Africa, West Germany, and the U.S. (me). I think that there was probably one more in the patrol, but I cannot remember where he was from. A bus dropped us off along the side of a dirt road someplace at high elevation with a bit of food for each of us, and the patrol leader had a map, and was shown where we were, and where we needed to be (pick-up point) at the designated date and time. It was a great experience--one I will never forget. My personal connection to the stamps below: this set was issued by Grenada, and I liked the images because they reminded me very much of my experience at the Jamboree.

I can claim a connection to this minisheet from Romania commemorating the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, and more specifically the skeleton event held on the track in Whistler. I was the Race Director for the event - that's the top of the pyramid for event volunteers (in other words, the biggest job you can get without a salary - ha haha). I posted this sheet way back in 2013 in a thread for Romanian stamps, so I'll just poach the text I wrote back then. Here's a minisheet from Romania commemorating the skeleton event at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Romania did have a qualifier at this event, Maria Mazilu. She finished last, but she finished! Her runs varied from "not very good" to "barely made it down", like this one. Ryan
