Queen and Empress Victoria Regina OK, Zip, I confess: your post reminds me of something, but I can't quite recall what it is.... I love the photo and the medals--beyond cool!

Thanks. What's the catalog number for your contribution? Thinking of getting a tattoo.

Thanks. What's the catalog number for your contribution? Thinking of getting a tattoo. Even cooler--nothing like a Victorian tattoo.... the notion of which seems a real contradiction in itself! OK, it's confession time, Zip! Although I realize that this thread is a part of the Great Britain sub-board, as well it should be, my contribution is actually from British North America, i.e. Canada, and not the mother-land itself. I tried to sneak my little snippet in here, under the radar, but you have been adroitly paying attention, of course! So, this is Canada, Scott #50, the half-cent black denomination of the Victoria 60th Jubilee set issued in 1897, 16 stamps in all. For those who love collecting "Victoriana", as you and I do, Zip, I can't think of too much better than a stamp with not just one, but two portraits of the grand lady. In fact, my very first post on TSF with an image in it was of my QV Jubilee set, which is my favorite set of stamps and the pride of my collection, which can be seen here: thestampforum.boards.net/post/44816/thread

It's Vicky whom I love, regardless of which country is honoring her. Thanks for the info. I recognized Canada, but couldn't get up to walk down the hall to the catalogues (bad hip day).
I spent thousands of dollars on laser surgery to remove the 7 tattoos I got in the 60's and 70's, but if my withered old skin will take it, I'd love Vicky on my arm.

Sorry to hear about the bad hip day, Zip. If I can ever be of help with a catalogue number or something, please don't hesitate to ask. I am more than willing to help you, my friend! As for the tattoo, if it were me, I would go for the portrait on the left more than the one on the right, although they are both worthy images, to be sure....

Thanks for the offer, but Doe brings them to me when my hip acts up. She was at the store at the time.
Am considering the online version.

If I put young Vicky on my wrinkled skin I'd feel like a pedophile. Well, if it makes you feel that way, Zip, then don't do it... choose the mature QV instead! But just to be clear: in 1837, the year attributed to the young Victoria image, she was 18 years old, which would have made her a beautiful young woman, and not a child. And along those lines, as you may already know, Victoria's date of birth was 24th May 1819, so 2 weeks from now will mark the 199th anniversary of her birth, and next year, of course, the bicentennial! Have any plans in mind, Zip? Should we do a special birthday thread to honor Victoria every 24th of May? Or do you (or anyone else for that matter) have another idea? There are also the dates that she became queen (20th June 1837) or was coronated (28th June 1838) or her wedding (10th February 1840).... These are all happy thoughts, and it would be nice to do something special to honor her memory in a continuing way! What do you think, Zip?

If you want to collect something else Vicky, try the zillions of revenues for everything under the sun. First loose stamps, then stamps on the proper documents. That will keep you busy a few decades.

Apropos of nothing, here's a 1927 Canadian Confederation medallion I've got kicking around with Queen Vic and her grandson George V. And, you know, I used to have that Queen Victoria's Sketchbook book...I wonder what happened to it?

This is an original "magazine", actually a huge (16 1/2 by 12) soft-cover book, celebrating the life of Queen Victoria. It was in a family home in London (Wimbledon) until a few years ago, then brought to New York. It's 102 pages long including seven pages of period advertising. About half the photos are printed, but about half are actually pasted into the book by the publisher, The London Illustrated News and Sketch, Ltd. The "magazine" is interesting reading. The photos and illustrations are rich. It's an interesting glimpse into a fascinating historical period. Sections include essays on Queen Victoria herself, and the Art, the Literature, Religion, Science, the Stage, the Navy, the Army, Travel, the Politics, Education, and the Imperial Policy of the Victorian Era as well as separate essays on Edward VII, and Queen Alexandra.

Price with shipping: $24. renden Because of the Penny Black, I became interested in QV. Read about her, fell in love, and now collect things relating to her. Not a historian, but love reading history. Started collecting antiques in my mid-20's. Eventually even owned an antique store. To be honest (I know all of you will be appalled) I enjoy reading much more than collecting stamps. I'm getting old and circling the drain, so I've given away a lot of cool antiques -- items such as a brick from the St. Valentine's Massacre garage (now a senior residence within walking distance from my apartment), a cavalry man's wallet from the civil War, paintings, etc.

Queen Victoria's underpants sold for £6,000 at auction Posted Sunday 26 October 2014 09:50 by Cahal Milmo (edited by i100 staff) in offbeat UPVOTE Unhandled type: A pair of bloomers that belonged to Queen Victoria have been sold for £6,000 at an auction room in Folkestone, Kent. They were, by any standards very big royal pants. Measuring 52 inches round and accompanied by a 66in chemise that could accommodate the most regal bust. The pants are understood to have been bought by an Israel-based royal memorabilia collector. They were certainly some of the strangest items I have sold in 40 years. I was surprised by the amount of interest. We had telephone bids lining up from America to Israel. Michael Hogben, Westenhanger Auctioneers There appears to be a growing trend for celebrity under-garments. Elsewhere, the “tighty whities” worn by Walter White character in the Breaking Bad television series sold at auction two weeks ago for $9,900 (£6,180). Other performers whose scanties have been sold off recently range from Elvis to Michael Jackson.
