The value descriptions (i.e., penny & pence) are different, as is the shading of the blue central design element.

What is the difference between this-
AND Hi, the 1d has two listed shades 'blue & yellow-brown' and 'blue & brown'. To help confuse matters they are also listed as perf 12 to 16 without listing the permutations. |

Some information about the above would be helpful. That's a 1948 stamp from Great Britain and it has long been one of my favourites. For a long time I never had a copy of it, nor did I have the 2-1/2d blue stamp that went along with it. The Scott catalogue lists it at the lowest value that they use (now 25 cents) and it always frustrated me that this stamp was supposedly so common but I never saw any. Eventually I did get a copy of the 1d stamp, then years later I finally started to buy stamp lots that had copies of these two stamps. The stamp had a bit of a trick to it. It was sold at post offices in the Channel Islands (Guernsey, Jersey, a few smaller ones) and only at stamp collector's windows at post offices throughout the UK. I suppose the stamp collectors who bought these stamps never used them because they wanted to collect them instead, and the Channel Islands are just a tiny percentage of the total UK population which won't generate much mail compared to Great Britain, so that's why I never came across used copies for the longest time. The stamps celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the end of German occupation during World War II. Ryan |
