I kept 100m+ in stock books for some 30+ years as I did not hinge or make pages. Never had an issue. Most collectors use them as a sort of staging method before mounting or to keep duplicates. I kept my "collections" in stock books (Lighthouse types) and extras for sale in glassine envelopes. A large 64 page book would hold 4-5m stamps. I personally found the stock books made analyzing, sorting and re-arranging the order simple. I left blank areas for missing stamps. For me it made my buying and selling years easy. When I started to sell off most of the collection, I sold the stock books for more than I originally paid.
Mind you extremes of temperature and high humidity can still be a concern for mint gum but perhaps less than being sealed in plastic?.

Storage conditions are key.

agreeing with angore, storage is key! I've pulled more than a few stamps out of glassines all stuck together because I (or the previous owner) didn't pay attention to humidity. :-( It can happen with stock books, album pages, anything. Chemicals migrate (including gum) - the rate of which determined by available moisture and temperature.

Being in the Canadian Military, I have lived on all 3 coasts of Canada, Germany for 3-½ years & some travelled with me on a ship in the Pacific, and some were in long-term storage while in Germany as well. I suppose luck played with my experience, but I've always kept stamps either in albums, or displayed singly in stock books. As in - beside each other & none on top of other stamps. That means more books for all the stamps, but I liked it better that way.

I think guarding against the effects of the high relative humidity in your area will be your greatest challenge. If you can't store your collection in a climate-controlled area then make sure you check it frequently for any adverse effects. Also, remember to store your stock books upright, rather than laying flat as the pressure increases the risk of the stamps adhering to the backing. Here are some tips From Mystic Stamp Company regarding long-term stamp storage. The American Philatelic Society has also provided information on preservation and care of philatelic material.

Some of my mint collection is inmounted on pages I created or purchased albums. Some are stored in Lighthouse brand stock books. The rest are in glassine envelops or dealer cards. I have not had any serious issues. There has been a few in glossines that stuck together . This was due to less than ideal storage conditions. On a regulars basis I will verify with a quick flip through to see that humidity is ok. Because of changing conditions seasonlyy, I move some albums. and boxes around to minimize humidity exposure.
My goal is to have everything mounted or in a stock book at some time.
I am sure you might find other suggestions and ideas and threads on this subject by using the Forum « search » link at the top of homepage. You may have to to a bit or reading and scrolling. There are years of information there that could help out in discovering more details about our hobby.
happy Collecting and reading.

One point not mentioned above is conversion from regular gum into glazed gum. Such stamps do not necessarily stick together, but they are ruined for philatelic purposes. I am thinking, perhaps wrongly, that pressure rather than humidity is the cause of glazed gum, which is hard and ultra-shiny, and clearly differs from normal gum. In my experience, U.S., Canada, and Switzerland suffer the most glazed gum.
Insects, especially silverfish, are also a factor in gum damage. They bore (by eating) perfect 0.5mm holes in any food source they discover, like gummed paper, and you never know they are there.

I know that Humidity is our enemy. Living in Savannah, Georgia, I have bought several people's, that live in Savannah, collections over the years, and it seems there are always stamps stuck together or to the pages. Not the entire collection, but there are always some. I have all my good mint stamps either mounted in black mounts in my albums, or in in Lighthouse stock books, upright in my cabinet. I have never had any of my stamps stick, but then again, we keep our house at 68 degrees year round and this seems to keep the humidity lower than outside. You have to understand that in Savannah, our summer humidity is always in 90% range and sometimes, our winters are not much better. LOL.

It dehumidifies the air as it cools it. Where I am (near the NH seacoast) it's always dry in the winter, but in the summer the water table is about equal to the top of the concrete in my basement.

I use a dehumidifier and if possible use a stamp mount. Even low value stamps may have a high value personal attraction. I prefer the mounted look of a stamp. Otherwise most stock books work well.

For brightonpete, I was at Boeblingen (Panzer Kaserne) for all of 1969. Once a month, we'd pile into my VW bus and visit the Canadian air base at Lahr. Your PX was much better than ours.

That's what I heard! But, whenever I was in port in the USA, a bunch of us would do the same & invade the nearest PX!

I can't afford stamp mounts. I prefer using stock books.
