"The Mutawakelite Kingdom, also known as the Kingdom of Yemen or, retrospectively, as North Yemen, was a state that existed between 1918 and 1962 in the northern part of what is now Yemen. Its capital was Sana'a until 1948, then Taiz. From 1962 to 1970, it maintained control over portions of Yemen until finally defeated in the North Yemen Civil War. Yemen was admitted to the United Nations on 30 September 1947."
"The kingdom of Yemen issues its first stamps in 1926 for domestic use. International mail is processed through Aden until Yemen joins the U.P.U. in 1930. During the civil war in North Yemen between 1962 and 1970, both the kingdom of Yemen and the Arab republic of Yemen issue stamps. The issues of the kingdom of Yemen from this period are disputed. Scott does not list these issues."
I couldn't track these two S.s in Scott, but Stanley Gibbons lists these as:
"The following stamps have either been issues in excess of Postal needs or have not been available to the public in reasonable quantities at face value, such stamps may later be given full listing if there is evidence of regular postal needs" . Royalist Issues-1967
Queen of Shebas visit to King Solomon 1967 - (Dec,1 maybe) .
I know from googling around that these are listed in Michel, can anyone give me catalogue reference # ?
Interesting observation on the CTO postmark, the Arabic & the English dates are Different(on duplicates also) .
Arabic reads 12/8/87
English 25/11/67
Previous owner of these passed away in 1980 .
My only explanation is that the Post office worker punched the wrong Arabic digits . Any thoughts anyone ?

My copy of Michel Naher Osten 2004 gives a date of December 1967 (no more detail than that). The top sheet has a catalogue number of Block 55B, the bottom is Block 56B. Neither sheet is priced cancelled and both are (were) given a value of €6 in mint condition. A very interesting footnote states that the bottom sheet with the dancing maidens was only allowed within the kingdom if the stamp portion was cut out, otherwise the border image was obliterated. Ryan's post inspired me to check and see if a more recent edition of that Michel catalog had any updated information (such as a more specific issue date, or any changes in catalog value). [edited to add:] As you can see, there was no additional, more specific information about the issue date, nor have they changed or expanded upon their catalog values. It turns out those two souvenir sheets are part of set of 7 stamps, plus one unissued stamp. Here's the pertinent information from the 2013 Michel Naher Osten. Hope that's helpful!

Hello everyone! I'm having fun with some Cinderella / Bogus and ... many, too many Trucial States. This Kingdom of Yemen should have been issued in 1969/70. Could you tell me in which year it was issued exactly? Give me a catalog number? Best of all, I don't find it in Colnect - has anyone found it in Colnect? Thanks so much!

... another mysterious rectangle of paper ... Same questions My Michel catalogue stops illustrating these Mutawakelite Kingdom of Yemen stamps after Oct. 1, 1969. There's a note which explains the reduced fortunes of the Kingdom, saying that by late 1969 all that was left were a few interior towns completely cut off from the outside by Republican troops, making it unlikely that there was any functioning postal system in the Kingdom. In July 1970, other nations began recognizing the Republic and withdrew their recognition of the Kingdom, removing any use for a postal system. Your Churchill stamp is recognizable from the remaining listings which don't include photos of the stamp issues - that series had an issue date of Nov. 10, 1969 and your stamp is Michel #848A. The first stamp is likely Michel #839A, also issued Nov. 10, 1969. That set is simply described as "Famous Arabs" with Mohammed (as it is spelled in the catalogue) being one of the three stamps in the set. That's the only stamp in those later listings which seems to fit your example. Ryan

Hi everyone With the information received, in an absolute spirit of sharing philatelic information, I reported the two issues to Colnect (creating a specific NIFiller). Now the two stamps are present, usefully for anyone, at these links: ChurchillFamous ArabsBye bye everyone.
