This works. Put a small glassine, or a folded glassine, between two worthless baseball cards (then inside a second glassine), and then into a standard envelope. Very good protection for the contents, and baseball cards will bend just enough that they do not create a non-machinable letter (21 cents extra). At almost every flea market or family garage sale, you can buy a lifetime supply of worthless baseball cards (known in the trade as "commons") for a buck. There are BILLIONS of commons out there clogging the marketplace. Your card-collecting buds may give you a couple handfuls just to get rid of them... And if the recipient has pre-teen kids, they will joyfully recycle the cards and start collecting, the very same day! Win-win-win.
