I'll start this off with a wee display of stamps I picked up from an All Nations auction some time ago. I love the two airmails in the middle. They have a number of beautiful stamps, but I have yet to collect any more of them. Someday perhaps...

brightonpete,
Nice display of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon stamps. I just checked in my inventory and I was surprised to see 45 stamps from this Island, off the coast of Newfoundland. They represent one of the legacies from my father. Never visited. Tanks for showing ! René

The "France Libre" overprints from St-Pierre-et-Miquelon have an additional mention of "F.N.F.L." (which stands for Free French Naval Forces). The very first set of issues also sports a "Noël 1941" line. This is because the British Admiralty did not want St-Pierre-et-Miquelon to be taken over by Vichy France and become a base for German U-boats at the entrance of the St-Lawrence where it would have been most dangerous for convoys going from North America to England. So de Gaulle was tasked to send a couple of small frigates, with 500 troops on board to "invade" the island. The landing happened on Christmas night of 1941, with no shots being fired, because the lone sentry gendarme on that foggy night had decided nothing was going to happen and headed home early. So after that, St-Pierre-et-Miquelon was, theoretically, under the control of these Free French Navy Forces. The stamps with the "Noël 1941" overprint are quite rare and tricky to come by, slightly less so for the others. I have been able to acquire 4 issues of the second set so far:

Québec is 200 miles (X1.6 in km) from my residence in New Brunswick and not "cheap"......will decide next Summer - same price to go to Spain where the Costa del Sol is spectacular....after 2 years in a row (Montreal-Malaga and 40 min north - Nerja)....... I thought this thread should be bumped, so I have added a few of my stamps from the "France Libre" issues. These are some of the less expensive ones, but some stamps from this period are quite rare and I read somewhere to beware of fakes. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Abstamper... Nice stamps.I collect France Libre issues, used if possible, from all of the French Colonies. Unfortunately,I haven,t many from St Pierre. A lot of the 1941-3 issues have extremely high prices.and as you say, there are many forgeries. The Dallay catalogue I use has a warning....attencion aux fais..expertise indispensable ! Every now and then,I will see expensive items for sale on Delcampe but I refrain from buying them.

In my search for French definitives, I found this part-set in a stamp shop in Bristol.
Issued 4th February 1986, Liberty by Delacroix overprinted (SG 552 to 566 except 561/561a).
The 2f.20 scarlet value is missing, together with the booklet version.

For completeness, here are two versions of the 2,20 Fr scarlet Marianne for SPM, and the cover of an unopened booklet containing ten stamps, which are recognizable by the thickness of the foot of the first "2" of the face value:

This is another new rabbit hole I've gone down after beginning an education into French stamps. Good grief, this little island has issued some beautiful stamps. I may have to start looking for these aw well as French stamps. I know I have a few of them, and now I have to go see what I have.

Airfare is crazy $$$$$$$$ - cheaper to leave from Europe I would like to visit but it is not that easy if you want to maintain a budget + the mighty Euro € is the currency there !!

I do not search our these wonderful stamps but I keep an eye out for them when starting through new arrivals of trades or bought lots. I know I have some stuffed away somewhere. Time to search them out and place in stock book.
i have always been fascinated by these two small island that is French. I flew right over them on my back from St John’s this past October. I do want to go. Have looked into the flights. The cheapest way involves three plane rides. It is cheaper for me to fly to Caribbean . Nice thing is that as a Canadian citizen a visa is not required to visit. Still, it remains on my travel list.

The rabbit hole goes deeper. I am in love with 1940-ish to 1980-ish commemoratives from France and allied countries (French Oceania, French Polynesia, French South and Antarctic Terr., Martinique, Monaco, St. Pierre & Miquelon, etc.). I love the colors, the engravings...they are beautiful. I have more in my possession already than I knew, but this is quickly becoming my new stamp obsession. I can't wait for the local stamp show in February so I can try to hit the jackpot and find a bunch I don't have.
