O'K' figured out I'm less than sane!!! that one is a war tax.I neglected these issues for years finally getting 'round to organize 'em.My excise and war tax of same design were jumbled together.I'm bad...

I am 99 per cent done organizing these. One more binder did most with help of some lists off van dam sales pages.I simply spaced numbers on blank pages and had a place for 'em.And in the process wound up with needs list which is safely tucked in front pocket of binder.

Question for someone with knowledge.I'm going through a bunch of Newfoundland Inland Revenues and my Van Damn's says watermarked but doesn't say what that watermark may be.Would that be the early crown or similar to the large queens? Also anyone interested in the duplicates that may appear?

Some of the NL revenues of 1907/11 were watermarked "occasionally" with a Stylized Columbia and a shield type imprint - no details on later issues only 1 or 2 letters show up on any single stamp That is a generous offer of free stamps that someone will get - they have sold on auction for more than the stated value

falschung, does the shield contain a star? I believe that's what I see, also a large number seem to be poorly perforated is this a result of paper type as in some other issues? I just dabble in these BOB issues never researched any other than what Van Damn presented info.Gotta love the engraving at any rate.

Wow a can of worms I have opened here. The shield hasn't yet been configured.I guess I better try to get a scan of the interior and get it off to BNAPS.It could be a major new find on this issue.

This is what the Columbia wmk looks like that I have filed away - many stamps will not show anything If someone has a Walsh Newfoundland Specialized, they can tell you more Great book but @ $75-$100, I have not felt the need to acquire it

Hi Mr Frog. Looked at this this morning, and now looking again with 'fresh' eyes. I see where you're going with this, you believe this to be a VanDam ML73 with the BF overprint? But looking at this again 8 hours later, I think your purple over print is an inverted 2 with a dash in front of it. Probably a cancel from use one some document. I think you've got a used ML11. But I'm always prepared to be corrected.

jamesw The purple matches exactly with the other hand stamps, which is why I set it aside for a second look some time ago.I'm going to put it under the microscope and see if it becomes clearer. For those of you that don't/haven't collected these there are over 100 law stamps just in this series from Manitoba,Not entirely sure why a sparsely populated Providence would need more law stamps than any other but that is the case.

Well, while I agree the purples are a match, I doubt the Province of Manitoba had exclusive use of that ink. And after adjusting in photoshop, I don't see a B or an F. I see a dash/line and a 2. Maaaaaybe an S? I hope your microscope reveals more. Good luck.

I blew it up a bit on the scanner. Not throwing out the cancel idea but it is definitely weird.I already knew it was not a normal over stamp with the BF so had to investigate what the heck that other purple thing was. still looking for idea of what the watermark looks like. Not in any of my files.
