Has anyone noticed any difference in the black color of stamp mounts between brands. I have a mix of Scott (preferred), Showgard and Mystic mounts. They all appear the same to me, but I have seen others claim that the shades of black are not the same and it's better to stay with the same brand.
And for those that don't know:
- Scott mounts are rebranded Prinz mounts
- Showgard mounts are rebranded Schaufix mounts
- Mystic mounts and rebranded Davo mount
I believe all 3 of these companies are German.

If you hold up a Scott/Prinz mount to the light, it is less translucent than Showgard which has a slight bluish tint.. Since you mount it on a page, I do not think this has much visual effect but may be behind the comment that Scott/Prinz are true black. However, Showgards are stiffer to me than the Scott/Prinz.

Hi
As an aside. I find that Showgard mounts are a little thicker than Scott mounts.

Hi As an aside. I find that Showgard mounts are a little thicker than Scott mounts. Jerry B The thickness may correlate to stiffness. I will measure tomorrow.

I have Unitrade and Lighthouse mounts, both clear. I prefer coloured cardstock over white/cream paper anyday.

I measured a Showgard and Scott mount and they are identical per my calipers.

Hi angore
Interesting. To my touch the Showgard seemed thicker. I never thought of actually measuring the thickness.

To me it confirms the materials used are different.

I prefer the Scott mounts over the Showgard because of some problems i had with the Showgard mounts.
Initially I was making my own pages and using Showgard mounts, but I noticed that some of the larger sized mounts (36 and others) had a wavy tendency that was causing the stamps to curl a little.I think it was a production problem but I bought several packages and the problem was there on all of them. I switched over to the Scott mounts and never found that happening. Hopefully Showgard resolved the problem, but I am not using Vario pages so I haven't purchased any mounts for quite a while.

I have experienced the waviness too with Showgard mounts.

I will also comment that I prefer Scott/Prinz because they seem to be more compliant with the thicker self-adhesive stamps.

I also have had the curling problem with Showgard mounts. I have a stamp store about 5 minutes from my house (conveniently, my son works there also), and he sells individual strips for a lot of sizes. So, when I need an oddball size, it's cheaper to pay $1.00 for a strip than $13.95 for a whole pack. Well, those are all Showgard mounts, and they've been in a file cabinet for years. And they're all wavy.
Showgard mounts I had stored away from the 90s were also wavy when I rediscovered the hobby. All the Scott mounts I had back then were still nice and flat.
Have no idea if this issue was corrected.

I like and only use clear stamp mounts. use Lighthouse. But, now with my last catalogue buy I supplied the order with some long stripes mounts. I did not check to good before I go to check out and received black mounts instead of clear. Well, might have to try our black mounts then.
