I couldn't find the regular listing for this stamp in my Scott Catalog. My copy has an inverted center, and is quite visually remarkable, I think! My excitement is tempered by memories of reading about lots of so-called rarities being purposely produced so as to "cash in" by "discovering" these supposed scarce errors--I just am not sure about in what countries this practice was more common. Also the abundance of forgeries of early Iranian stamps is well-known. "Album Weeds!" as an old fellow Hollywood Stamp Club member and former acquaintance of mine would say. And write. His Billig-type book was an early primer on what to look out for, forgery-wise. I think it was published around 1940 when Herman "Pat" Herst, Jr. had a shop on Nassau Street in New York City. I had the pleasure--and some pain-- of knowing the prolific author through the sometimes heated auction lots we both sought as determined bidders in the 1980's stamp club. Bound to a wheelchair, I didn't recognize "Pat" until other club members warned me not to get on the bad side of him. Pat and a few other former Nassau-Street stamp dealers were a regular sight at the Hollywood (Florida) club, which still meets every Tuesday in South Florida. I was member 1255 I think, and used to pop in every few years when visiting the greater Fort Lauderdale area. To this day I know there are still a couple of big names in the stamp world that are members and show up occasionally!
