In amongst the boxes I have the following small (7" t x 9" w) album for the 1953 Coronation stamps- There are a handfull of stamps (hinged) but it is otherwise unused. My question (as I do not collect GB and my goal is divest all non US stamps so I can focus solely on US) 1). Is there an interest in an album such as this? 2). As I think I may have most of stamps (or at least a great many) would it be better to mount (crystal) and offer as a "collection" Looking for strategy suggestions? Thanks The small white fleck (lower left) I believe is paint....

stainlessb Please tell me you don't mean Crystal mounts. Those mounts have horrible problems. The biggest with you are suggesting is the mounts destroy the pages if you try to remove them. The more stamps you add to complete the album the better I would think.Shipping will be the main problem as I see it.Crystal mounts yellow over time and also tend to migrate some of the yellowing to the edge of the stamps.

I have this album . I purchased it a few years ago at a local stamp show for about $20 CAD. It contains used copies of all issues. All enclosed in a clear mount and attached with a hindge of some kind. Stamp condition is ok but pages have brown spots that show through on the.reverse side of the page. I have left as is for now as I fear I might damage the pages by removing the hinged mounts. There must be collectors out there that would be interested in purchasing the whole set of stamps. Though not very heavy as a book, I am sure mailing costs would be pricey.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

That is very cool! I'd ask if it's for sale, but everyone is commenting on the shipping cost, so it's probably out of reach anyway.

I’ve only just found this post so a delayed response. That’s a very nice album. It’s a great find especially as the stamps are mint.

As mentioned I had thought of selling it in the past but I guess I like it too much so it is staying put. I have most of the stamps in my specialty and world wide albums too. They do show up fairly often on eBay selling in the 30.00-40.00 range plus shipping. Several that have sold recently were the same as mine with the full 106 series mint and hinged.

Hi Stanley, I have several versions of these albums. I believe some were available with the stamps already mounted (106 stamps in a complete set) while empty albums were also available. I say this because after examining and owning over a dozen of these I see some have the stamps mounted in an exact place on the page in over 4 different albums (I'm guessing these were sold with the stamps mounted) while several others show sloppy alignment (probably collector mounted).
There are varying degrees of quality in the sets I've seen. Stanley, your album is among the best. They came in several colors, some with gilt and silver embossing some without but the best albums have the pressed fabric cover with the rampant lions facing. These albums also have the nicest Calligraphy and Country titles. Another plus is that these albums are the Spring-Back type. Younger collectors might not recognize this style of album binder. To remove pages you open the album as far as it will open, bringing the back and front outside covers together until they touch; this opens the spine and frees the pages. I love this style but nowadays the trend is towards Posts or rings.
The first example is the nicest one I've owned, I have a matching album of similar quality for the 1937 Coronation (I'll post some pictures of that album later).
The 2nd (set of 2) show the entry level albums for the Coronation, they include more background information than the deluxe albums but are sewn together with cheap cardboard covers.
The 3rd example is another deluxe type with a Spring-Back binder.
All of these albums contain complete Mint Hinged sets. I've bought and sold similar albums for $75 to $200 depending on the album quality.

The orange one is the same as mine that I posted with the blue cover. It appears it suffered the same oxidization as the gilt on mine. I was tempted to try a bit of polish but decided if it went wrong it would be worse. I tend to agree with you Rob that some came with the stamps already mounted. They are so precise. The one with the fancy calligraphy is wonderful.
