What I collect: Worldwide - Stamps and Postmarks - not enough time...

Simple - add an image of something peculiar you have found, some kind of curiosity in some form or the other. Do not say what that is. The forum members will try to identify what you think is special. Not necessarily limited to one correct answer, but the intention is that each image should have one main feature of interest as the reason for you posting it. Hope this will add some challenge for forum members - widen our perspectives - and learn even more about this fabulous hobby.

So - here goes the first puzzle: I picked up this block of 4 from Cape of Good Hope yesterday. I actually purchased a much larger lot only to pick obtain this particular item - so why?

I see faint lines between some of the perfs. Maybe it is from the center of the sheet?

OK, the postmark is the clue here. Anybody knows why it is interesting?

Well, based on what I know of you, Jon ( blaamand ), I definitely have been guessing all along that your interest would have something to do with the postmarks rather than the stamps, but I cannot make heads-or-tails out of these seemingly generic-looking, smudgy postmarks... but I feel certain that must be where the interest lies!

OK, the postmark is the clue here. Anybody knows why it is interesting? I have no evidence to support this guess, but are these postmarks indication of a certain location or forerunners of some type?

Yepp Beryllium Guy, you know me by now.... This mute (no number) killer was used in Maseru, SEE HERE and so were the stamps of Cape of Good Hope. Hence I consider this block as a forerunner for Basutoland, stamps used in Basutoland prior to getting their own stamp issued. Postal history at its best

Thanks to Jon ( blaamand ) for starting this thread, and to Michael ( Londonbus1 ) for his teasers, which I have enjoyed immensely. I love a good quest! I will endeavor to live up to those previous efforts, which have been quite good in my estimation. This is my first try at one of these, so if it doesn't measure up, please forgive me. This teaser/puzzle is designed to test your powers of observation. At first glance, this may appear to be a pretty nice copy of Canada, Sc 19, 17-cent blue depicting Jacques Cartier. But is it? In fact, the image of this item may be concealing the truth about what it really is. Take a close look. Can anyone tell me what's unusual about this item, and what it really is? Depending on what sort of interest I get and if anyone really nails it, I will consider sending a prize to the person giving the best response. Not sure what that will be, but I will come up with something. So, take a look, and let's have your comments. Have fun, stay stampy, and good luck!

It has an unusual shading around the edges between the design and the perfs, is it a cut out image stuck on another stamp? ps this is what the image in my old (1997) SG catalogue looks like it is amazing we could even identify the stamps with this quality of image back in the last century.

Gavin ( feebletodix ), you got it right out of the box! Well done to you! It is, indeed, a copy of what I believe to be a genuine Canada, Sc 19 with all the teeth (perfs) trimmed off, which has then been overlaid onto another stamp to give it the impression of a sound copy. Well, that didn't last long. I will go back to the drawing board to try to come up with something else for the future. Thanks for playing! I will try to come up with a little something to give you as a prize for your speedy acumen here today.

It is from a 1947 Belgian Congo stamp, Scott #228,commemorating the 50th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the Belgian Congo.

Thanks butterfly, I missed adding that after a long day.
The next gathering of dealers is in a week, which is where I shall try and find something for Bombadil, otherwise it's leftovers.
