That’s a great collection angore I particularly like the layout and info for each stamp. Do you lay that out and print it yourself?. I’ve bought the album page download from adminware but you layout looks better. Where do you get all these stamps? All mine are used from kiloware so I’m a bit limited Graham

Wow, Al angore , I have lived most of my life with Machins , especially these 1st and 2nd class NVIs. I never appreciated just how many types there are, and they are still issuing new variants. It is truly impressive when you see them like that.

radiocruncherAs noted in my post, I purchased them from a dealer in the UK. The dealer sells as shown on stock pages with labels. etc. I was having difficultly with the NVI printers and catalogs that did not help so I got a reference collection. In many cases, there were at least 3 printers let alone all the sheet and booklet types.

That’s certainly a great service they offer. Are you able to say who the dealer was? I’ve been working through the 1st NVI’s in red and there are so many varieties. I suppose it boils down to how specialised you want to be with them. Great fun though hunting them down. Regards Graham

As far as mint self adhesives go, is there any reason to not trim the plain backing paper closer to the stamp? I notice quite a few with lots of paper surrounding the stamp and some with not so much.
My Fiskars guillotine cutter would easily trim it almost to the edge of the stamp.

He specialises in GB and is very knowledgeable on Machins

The dealer Hampstead has quite the listing of Machins available, plus the Connoisseur Catalogue is quite extensive.
Two more links to while away your day on!

I have found Rushstamps to have good prices for the X and Y decimal Machins. They also offer mint and used stamps but do not offer the specialist year/source codes. For more detailed varieties,Burgess family on Ebay is another excellent source.

The dealer was Bill Stokes in Great Britain. He sells on ebay but I got his name from fellow collector here. He specializes in these type of presentation sets. They came on a stock page and sealed!

I'm not suggesting that angore is being coy here but I couldn't find anything for bill stokes, billstokes or even just stokes as seller names. I even tried a Google search, 3.7 million results in 0.42 seconds including William Stokes Surveyor, Oleomargarine and our old friend Clive Feigenbaum!! I don't blame angore, if I found the perfect supplier I wouldn't want to share it with the hoi polloi either

Wow, now there's a set I can get my hands onto! Complete Machin collection from 1971 - 2021! Only $1,695.13 (£1,220) + 27.79 for shipping! Over 1,150 stamps in the collection. That would make it easier for me to get a decent collection. Are they mailed on cards and fully documented? That would be a deal & a half!
Note: that link is munged that angore put up. His name is "triggs184" just delete the trailing bits...

brightonpete He sells on the cards as shown with descriptions. The two pages (front and back) were individually shrink wrapped. He also sells them in stock books too. I have ordered other pages. If I recall, he quoted 2 prices. The key for me was reference copies for tagging, color. etc. The link I posted should go to his ebay store. It works for me. If you want his email address, please send a PM. He accepts paypal/

Interesting, at those prices it might be time to sell my 1971-1999 Machin collection rather than use them as postage.

Thanks for that angore he certainly does have the Machins well catalogued. I will stick to trawling through 1000’s of stamps on paper for now but it would be great to get the full set

Booklet pane SG Y1764L from the 2011 WWF Prestige book, issued by Cartor with litho printing. Y 1764 5P lake brown, only found in this book Y 1788 67p bright mauve, and Y 1790 97p bluish violet, only found in this book and in MS 2268,the 2010 Festival of Stamps mini sheet. The 67p and 97p are two of the higher priced elliptical Machins.Postally used copies are harder to find as these books were aimed at collectors who do not like to break up the sheets or panes and use the stanps for regular postage.

Very nice booklet pane anglobob . I’ve recently bought the 2003 coronation booklet. I may however have to buy 2 more of the same though making 3 in total. One for the booklet as a whole, one for the panes and one for the individual stamps. I wonder if that is the norm or is it just me. I want to display the panes but wouldn’t want to break up the only booklet I have

radiocruncherSome of these Prestige Books are quite expensive, often in the £20-£30 range .If you are only interested in obtaining the individual stamps which are only found in that particular book, you would be better off financially either buying the individual pane or stamp.Examples of these can easily be found on Ebay or Delcampe. Not all the books have unique-to-that book stamps. If you buy a book and break it up,you will end up with a lot of stamps which you will have to use as postage,as there is a lot of duplication.Let me know if you need information on which books contain the harder to find Machins. Anglobob Thanks it would be useful to know where to look for the rarer Machins. The stamp I was after was the £1 reissue of the original stamp which is unique to the booklet as are a couple of the others. Buying them individually in this case would work out more expensive than the booklet.

The Booklet stamp is the 2nd re-issue after 'Her Majesty's Stamps' Miniature Sheet in the year 2000. SGMS2147. Just so you don't get confused !!

Londonbus1 Regarding the £1 re-issue.There is a difference. SG 2380 2B and SG 2380A ex MS 2147. The latter stamp has a much lower catalogue price. It also does not appear to have phosphor bands.

Thanks for the info Londonbus1 I think it does differ from the older stamp though as just confirmed by anglobob . I don’t have that one either though! My collection is a bit patchy after around 1990

That's true, the stamp is on Phosphorised Paper. It is also a slightly different colour. I was mostly pointing it out to radiocruncher so he was aware that there was a previous re-issue of the £1 Coronation stamp. I'm just happy I stopped with GB long ago but I'll admit it was fun with all the varieties. I just didn't have deep enough pockets !!!! Londonbus1

I bought three booklets, for the stamps, pane and booklet. If however you are catching up, then it is best to buy them separately.
It should be noted that catalogue prices for machins especially booklets are way over the top.
Take the Prestige book DX21 issued in 1998. The original price was £6.16, the value of the stamps is £8.86 and catalogue price is £35 (according to Ebay), yet looking at the Ebay 'sold' prices you can buy them between £6.10 and £8.00.

Thanks michael for the info. I too bought pretty much everything for about 3 months in the early 90’s with a subscription to the philatelic bureau in Edinburgh. It included left and right mounting of the panes and other varieties. I quickly stopped it when I realised how much it was all costing. I don’t really collect booklets now but as Bob pointed out earlier, they do contain some of the harder to get varieties. Catalogue prices are a bit far fetched and I always shop around before deciding to buy anything
