The 30 C. (Zumstein 33/Michel 25/Scott 46) looks strange to me.It should be zinnober (vermillion). Maybe it is an oxidated stamp,or a colour-variation not listed in my general catalogue ? I can show the stamp in used condition only: For comparison: the Merkur stamp of my avatar is also zinnober.

I have what appears to be an imperforate pair of the 40 centime Standing Helvetia. However, it seems to be on card stock, similar to what would otherwise likely be a cut out section from postal stationery (postal card). The quality is less than average, rather mottled looking too. I haven't seen any notation in my older Zumstein or 2018 Scott catalogues regarding this issue being imperforate.... I did find this proof imperforate single stamp on a Swiss website being offered for CHF 250: Has anyone an idea for further research on imperforate Swiss classic stamps? Thanks in advance! ---Jim

A pretty neat Swiss document recently won for a mere pittance online: If you look closely there are two different cancellations; the three on a horizontal plane are dated 13 January, 1912. But the top and bottom cancels are dated 1 October, and are in French. Not sure of the significance of these two different CDS....maybe more clues will arrive when it gets to me from Europe! Also I'm not sure the 3-Franc Helvetias are a block of seven; it may be two strips or several singles just placed close together. I'm quite fond of large multiples/blocks of higher value, classic stamps--of any country, especially on piece (or parcel card, as seems likely in this case!)

I have to admit, that I have a different opinion about the term "classics" in regard to postage stamps. In the case of Switzerland I would include all stamps up to the Sitting Helvetia - series of 1881. With most other countries I make the cut around 1870. I think classics are those stamps what were issued for the payment postal fees only. This excludes commemoratives,semi-postals etc. But for sure the "real modern" stamps of 1920th and 1930th are of a different kind, than the classics. But this is my personal opinion, other people may have different ideas. I own only a few cheaper "classics" from Switzerland,as a number of the early ones are really, really expensive.
issued Oct.1st,1850
Same stamps with black frames around the crosses were issued on Oct.14th (5 Rp.) and Oct.2nd (10 Rp.) 1850 The 5 Rp. is about three times dearer, than the one without frame. The 10 Rp. with complete frame is a rarity.

Has anyone an idea for further research on imperforate Swiss classic stamps? These issues are very numerous in variety but individually scarce They command anywhere from $50-$500+ - especially pairs So you have a keeper
Thank you NL1947 for your helpful assistance! You are a wealth of information for which we all are grateful!! The term classic is very subjective--to me, most countries' issues up to around the First World War would qualify, but I suppose the true classics are the stamps we all wish were in our collections, especially the pricier ones.....

issued March 30th,1851 Again this stamp exists with a black frame around the cross. With partial framing quite affordable, stamps with a complete frame are amongst the greatest stamp rarities worlwide.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Recent posts about the Swiss Sc 8 sent me looking to see if I had any of those early issues. Sadly I do not but I do have these 5 Helvetia imperforated stamps that all appear to be from the 1858-62 rough impression and thick paper series. I do not specialize in Switzerland so I am not sure how they would be graded. 2 do have damage. Possibly they are all cut too close for purists. I do like the postmarks on several.
