Y 24 or "Labrador watching plane crash" & Y 25 Y 26 & Y 27 (Unusual choice as it is a pitcher plant and carnivorous) Y 28 & 30 The Surcouf was more of a submarine warship with very impressive armaments. This is one of my favorite stamps from Saint-Pierre & Miquelon: Scott C21 from 1957. It looks thematically linked to the 1932 Postage due set: Scott J21-J31 (J21 shown). Rob

I noticed that, most unfortunately, we have lost the very fine pictures of some of the early posts of this thread. I will therefore endeavor to replace them with what I can. Let us start with the three WWII victory omnibus issues: The first anniversary of Victory, YT #PA11, issued in 1946: The Chad-to-Rhine set tracing back the steps of French reconquest, YT #PA12-17, issued in 1946 as well: The 10 th anniversary of the Liberation issue, in 1954, YT #PA22, on which I have always appreciated that they mention the (failed) raid on Dieppe by mostly Canadian troops on 8 November 1942:

YT #PA28, issued in 1962, for the 20 th anniversary of St-Pierre-and-Miquelon joining Free France. The archipelago was "taken back" by an expeditionary forces of 500 men from De Gaulle's Free French Forces on Christmas night 1941. They actually did not meet any opposition, as the only local defense was a lone gendarme that had gone to sleep thinking the night was too foggy for anything to happen. It was however strategically important in order to deny the German U-boats a base in North American waters from where to continue harassing trans-Atlantic transports.

The first St-Pierre-et-Miquelon airmail issues, YT #PA1-3, are the omnibus issues from 1942 for the Imperial Fortnight ("Quinzaine Impériale") and the Protection for Indigenous Children pair of stamps. Since these were issued by Vichy France and, as we saw already, by 1942, the archipelago was no longer under its control, they never saw much postal usage. The second set, YT #PA4-10, is the omnibus issue from Free France, and this one did see postal usage:

After this period of experimentation, there was a 10-year hiatus in the issuance of SPM airmails, until 1987, where they went back to the basic large rectangular format and issued in 1987 and 1988, YT #PA64-67, two pairs of stamps featuring aircraft that came to the islands:
