As I move closer to the task of printing pages
correct me if I am misguided- the ShowGard mount sizes are for the stamps to be placed in them, not the actual dimension of the mount? I've looked on the ShowGard site but I'm not finding whether size is ID or OD (I believe it's for ID... )
Is there a standard wider/taller dimension to add that is consistent to all the sizes? I've looked at several of the "standard" sizes... but now I'm second guessing myself
I want to set up some framed boxes to save in Scribus and rather than trial /error/print/throw away... if anyone knows this I'd be most appreciative.
and if this works I will share (as it is afterall open source!)
I was building this in Acrobat, but Scribus seems already set up for such an endeavor! and if the wheel doesn't need reinventing.... why bother!?!
thanks in advance

Hi When Showgard was first introduced, I met the people at a local stamp show. I asked a lot of questions as to use of the mounts. I was told that the mount size was the vertical height of the stamp and therefore the size between the top and bottom welds. To determine the width: measure the width of the stamp from perf tip to perf tip and add 3 mm The vertical size of the welds is approximately that height. Using this method, the stamp will essentially be centered in the mount. If making your own pages, I would make the "box" for the mount and stamp the actual size of the mount plus 1mm or 2mm. For proper use of the mounts see: thestampforum.boards.net/post/1847Jerry B

When measuring the size of box needed, I have set up a grid within the printed area. I print that out, then just lay the stamp over the grid and make the box accordingly.
Easy peasy...

The good thing about stamps is that usually are printed in standard sizes.
I used Scribus too and ended up with an inventory of standard sizes (saved in Scribus Scrapbook feature) for US stamps so you could just drag the shape along with text fields onto the page. You only needed to create it once by measuring stamp/mount then added the space you want around the mount. In my case, I recall, it was 5mm wider and 7mm taller than the stamp since I was following Mystic's style of including the catalog number in the stamp box below (not covered up) the stamp.

The Lighthouse mounts I use which are specified by stamp height are consistently 4mm taller. i.e the 21mm mounts intended to hold 21mm stamps are actually 25mm tall. The mounts come in the form of a 217mm long strip which I cut 4mm wider than the stamp so as to maintain a constant 2mm margin all round. Another open source alternative you could consider would be AlbumEasy, a dedicated stamp album page layout program. Some people love it, others hate, unsurprisingly I am in the former camp. See my signature for details. Clive

Having a Mac, I tried to install AlbumEasy, but gave up. Just too much obscure work-arounds to get it in. It doesn't work with Wine either. At least I was unable to make it work.

I also looked at AlbumEasy and being on a Mac the procedure to set it up/install it was just a bit more than I was comfortable trying- Scribus seems like it will work fine once I save the standard "sizes" to scrapbook

I also looked at AlbumEasy and being on a Mac the procedure to set it up/install it was just a bit more than I was comfortable trying I would love to be able to offer a Mac version of AlbumEasy, but not having access to a Mac that has not been possible. But, as the source code is cross-platform and as it is freely available, I had hoped that by now someone with Mac development experience would have offered to build a Mac version. But other than the instructions (which I have just noticed are outdated) linked from the web site there have not been any offers.
If anyone has a friend, acquaintance, or relative, experienced with building Mac software, and willing to help, it should be a relatively straightforward task to create a Mac release; I would be happy to give them whatever assistance I can.
The alternative would be for me to try and build a Mac version myself. But even if was able to beg, borrow or steal a Mac, I would still have my complete lack of Mac experience to overcome. Clive

I had created a reference table for US stamps for my US Mystic album.
