I proposed to start a collection for a local club but the admin consensus was that old books and especially catalogs had little value. No longer a member! My old books now go to a Philatelic Foundation in our Province after scanning. Some places like HERE have done wonders just with member efforts. I'd like a copy of the Kohl book beside the weeds books. it is not easy to find

I have not used this library to much. But I will contact the person who administrate it and ask if he need nny help. I know that there is no register of what we have, so that is a big jobb witch need to be done. That way I will be more familiare to what's in there. Maybe some of it can be digitally converted? (PDF)

Hi tobben63
What a fantastic philatelic library. It beats my local public library. I am anxious to a see a write up as to how this all began.

Ok, now I have made a PDF file of my old Michel catalogue mention in the post above. I only did the 50 pages - some table with Zusammenhangende marken (very similar to Norwegian) (Sammenhengende merker) Well, the PDF file is 40mb. Who want it and how to share it? A snapshot teaser (at 200% enlargement)
Click on it to see it in 200% I also need a evaluation on the pdf and tips to improve it.

Tobben63,
i had a look at it and at 200% I find I am able to read the text quite well. I would need to really need to improve my German before I could use.
Thanks, David

I'll bite and take a look! I can muddle through with the German. Google Translate works well, and colours are colours...

Hi tobben63 I had the same problem of sharing. I was doing some programming for Ryan and he used BOX as a sharing source. I now use it myself. Here is the link: www.box.com/personalThere is a signup box at the bottom of the page. There is a free personal plan but I cannot find it. Jerry B

Also, I'll add that I've used Google Drive successfully to transfer large files, but I can't specifically comment on the pluses and minuses of each provider.

Dropbox is likewise a free option (up to a certain size limit which is ample for files such as this)
Easy to use, set up a folder, add the e-mail addresses of who will have access and drag and drop the file. Those who's e-mail address has been entered get an "invite"

I have dropbox but wil have a look at wetransfer. Will set this up tonight (its early morning here now). I think I have found the recipe for making good readable pdf of old catalogues and books. The biggest drawback is the time it takes to do it.

Hi
WeTransfer looks good for a "one shot" file transfer. I did not see any "permanent" storage option as with BOX.
zipper: Since you use WeTransfer, can one transfer a folder containing multiple folders and files? I had that situation when sending over 25 MP3 music titles (each title a folder with up to 20 files) to Colombia. The recipient had no problems downloading the main folder and then deleting the folder from BOX. Can that be accomplished with WeTransfer?
One note about BOX. I have always found it a little slow in uploading but adequate speed when downloading.

I have uploaded 3 files to BOX The files are PDF from Michel 1944/45 catalogue. Notting very special, just a test on how to make a PDF and how to share. 1. Germany 1872-1945 (first pages (front) wrong way and very yellow) 2. German states (More white pages (16bitb/w)) 3. Bosnien_hg-Danzig (same as above) Feel free to download and use. Please give feedback and tips on improving pdf. Link to files

That's great, but my OCR program goes from left to right, mixing up the pages. I know it is a pain and takes longer, but I usually scan one page at a time. But these pages are quite legible otherwise. (My spell checker didn't know "quite"!) I'll have to leave Germany for now, as I am trying to get Luxembourg finished & ID the Turkey stamps that arrived yesterday... Thanks for scanning that, tobben63!

When I see this thread, I always think of the comment in the original post as being books of former members that passed away.
