Here's an interesting bit of ephemera (I thought anyways) that I picked up last weekend at the old book and paper show in Toronto. Dated July 1 1888 (Canada's 21st birthday!) a receipt for payment on the rental of a p.o. box in Newmarket Ont., the big town that is near the little town that I live near (or something like that...) Shown both sides, complete with advertising on back for an insurance broker. Professor Google has found for me one Joseph Albert Bastedo (1841 - 1907) of Newmarket, but I don't know if that's him. How many could there have been? It's not a big place.
