Hello bernardo, I found a Bale Palestine Mandate Catalogue on eBay. I set it as a saved search with email notification and found one a few weeks later, very reasonably priced. Mine is the 1988 edition and unless you need the latest prices it is perfectly adequate.
As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I also found "The Stamps and Postal Stationery of Palestine Mandate 1918-1948" catalogue by David Dorfman on eBay using a saved search.
For less detail than the Bale or Dorfman, if you have access to the Stanley Gibbons Commonwealth and Empire Catalogue, it has a reasonable Palestine Mandate Section.

I have been looking for a stamp from Palestine Mandate for quite some time. It does not have a high catalog value, but is just not under the various rocks I have turned over looking for it.
It is an unused copy of SG 100 or Scott 78, but it needs to have the vertical ribbing on it. I have used copies, so I know it exists in this format. If you are not familiar with the ribbing, look at the back of the stamp. You will see vertical lines, or a diamond shaped pattern rather than the normal smooth paper that is also found on this stamp.
I am interested in either buying or trading for it. I have a number of Palestine Mandate stamps on my website (www.kgvistamps.com) that are available for trade.
Here is the image of the stamp as well as my Palestine Mandate paper chart. Thanks

east and west, near, far and middle, old world and new world - do they all now still have a place in our vocabulary?? Like so many expressions, these are all historic and may not be understood by all, and not much use either if English not the mother tongue. Presumably Palestine would be described as part of the near east ?? - Mandated to Britain in 1922 by the League of Nations, and which came into effect late September 1923 - an area of tragedy and discontent throughout all of man's history. This example of a Palestinian postage due forms part of a short run of values that look to have first appeared on 1st April 1923, so seems bona fide to be included in the Mandated group of stamps. Seems there were only five values, of which this is the 8 Milliemes, and looks to be SG D4 - the colour is described as mauve. However, the real reason for posting is because this is one of my quirky likes - I'm a big fan of Dues - and this particular example shows again such massive 'poor centering' - to put it mildly - borrowing a little from another stamp at the side and above.

I purchased a cheap lot of covers and slogans and these two items were included. It's a shame that they're not complete covers but I was able to learn a little about Major H J Rice.
The first item is similar to a cover that JeffS had shown in his Oranges thread. This one is postmarked Haifa on 20th Nov 1938. The slogan is tri-lingual (not obvious in my example) which, in English, reads 'Buy Jaffa Oranges and Grapefruit'. We have two lots of three British Mandate to the League of Nations 'Dome of the Rock' stamps, SG 104 4 mils purple and SG 94a 6 mils deep green. It is addressed to Major H J Rice CIE (Companion of the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire) of the Royal Army Medical Corps and based at Poona Hospital, India. At some point later, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Assistant Director of Medical Services in India. Writing in the Journal of the Royal Army Medical Corps, he would comment that the most difficult case to diagnose would be malingering! The second related item which came with the Palestinian item has a 'Support Indian Industry' slogan but showed that Major Rice was likely in India.

I recently put together an ID Chart to show the four paper types that were used on the Palestine Mandate Pictorial set. These are mentioned in the Stanley Gibbons Catalogue with no price variation, but some are listed in the Commonwealth Catalogue that was owned by Murray Payne. The horizontal ribbed paper issues range from scarce to rare - depending on the value. So they are worth finding.
If you can't see the detail on the ribbed paper, right click the image and save it to your PC. Then you can use Photo Viewer to enlarge the image to see the ribbing. It was scanned at high resolution, so it can be enlarged without losing the resolution.

I've recently tried sorting out my few Palestine stamps - not that I have many, but in doing so have come to appreciate how deceptively complex these are, and much credit to the guys here who have made available their findings for us. Have attached a 'Palestine' ovprt. which first off I thought had originated in Egypt, but seems unlikely as I can't find it there, so very grateful if anyone is able to tell me the source of the attached 5 MILS. Many thanks.

Many thanks. Your stamp was a Transjordan overprint of an Obligatory Tax Stamp for use in Occupied Palestine, which occurred just after the end of the British Mandate when Jordan occupied the territory. It is SG PT 35-46, or Scott NRA1-NRA12. Here is a scan of the whole set so you can see what else was included.

thanks v. much for the quick reply kgvistamps - appreciated - this looks to be an attractive set. Now that you mention Transjordan, I do have others with that name, so will need to look them out. There are problems with collecting too much WW - I have more countries than I knew even existed, and dotted around in umpteen stock books, all awaiting their turn for sorting out :-(

I just came across some images from the time I was preparing to sell my Palestine collection. I wonder sometimes why I did it. But I never give myself an answer. Oh well. No used crying over spilt milk......so they say. Oops ! OK, for old times sake, here are a few probably seen already but it is a memory....for me at least. I wonder where they are now.......

Here's a full set of the 1923 Postage dues mentioned earlier. These do exist Imperforate and as previously stated, with lots of poor centering !! Printed in Jerusalem by the Greek Orthodox Convent, Perf 11.
