The confederation was an interesting but short lived stamp issuing authority. For Prussia , Lauenburg Saxony , Oldenburg ,Mecklenburg Schwerin and Strelitz , Brunswick ,Bremen, Lubeck Hamburg Saxe Weimar , Saxe Coburg , Anhalt, Waldeck Lippe Russ and Hesse some of which never had stamp of their own. It was formed from a group of small German states in 1868 and disappeared when Bismark created the German Reich in 1872 MI #1-6 The stamps are rouletted. There were two currencies Groschen for the Northern region and Kruezer for the south.

Nice cover! This is my one cover from the North German confed. Was gifted to my father by his "stamp mentor" when he first started collecting, so have a sentimental attachment to it.

That's a really nice cover with 4 different stamps. I don't normally collect the covers, but I couldn't resist this lot.

Here is my North German Confederation Collection so far. I found these pages yesterday and added hinges last night. These pages will do until I can get better ones printed. I just discovered that the #25 & 26 look just like the Germany #12 & #13. So, I looked in my Germany album, and lo and behold, what I thought was a Germany #13, was actually a North German #26. So, I moved it to the correct page. Now I am missing a German stamp, but have 1 more North German stamp.

I just changed the second picture in my above posting. I had shown the wrong page 2. LOL. Some days I wonder if my brain is actually turned on or maybe the "ON" button is broken.
There will be a page 3 soon, I just bought another cover.

This stamp has already been shown by salentin in the Hamburg thread, but Michel (as Nr. 24) and the AFA catalogs count it a North German Confederation issue, so I can show this new acquisition here:

The first series of rouletted stamps have a low value in the condition of postal cancellation (with 3 exceptions) All collectors arrange them nicely in albums or stockbooks - as I did. Since I decided to sell what I have in duplicate, I looked more closely at the stamps. I thought I had a non-perforated (non-rouletted) stamp, but unfortunately it did not meet the dimensional condition mentioned in Michel: - total width greater than 21.5 mm - total height greater than 24.6mm ...probably someone used the scissors. In Michel it is mentioned that a thin paper was also used (x paper smaller than 0.06mm/0.00236in) Before measuring the stamps, it is better to select those that clearly show the design on the back - like a translucent paper) It is worth looking for them because the value in the Michel catalog is from 3 to 16 times higher. My stamp on the left has thin paper and has a value of 80 euros. It is more difficult to find a specialized collector interested in this variety.
