I got this in the mail yesterday Of course it was empty. The stamp it should have contained cost less than $5 but was one that I was looking forward to getting. About a month ago, this showed up in the mail The stamp it was supposed to contain was around $10. No big loss, but still. In addition to the above, I have had two mailings from trusted eBay sellers go missing in the last month. Neither was very expensive but I’m to the point that I don’t trust the USPS as far as I can throw them! Any of these could very well have been a $100 or more stamp. Granted that most sellers of such material use tracking numbers and insurance but those things, in and of themselves, aren’t going to stop these things from happening. Is anyone else as frustrated as I am? Rant over.

What mess!
i have never had anything like this ever happen to me. I have not had any issues with my mailing coming from the US. Sometimes slower that I would like but could easily be a Canada Post issue. Even Canada Post has never delivered me mail like that.
i hope this does not continue for you.

Coastwatcher's surprise was brutal. My worst experiences are lost registered mail; letters sent to me (in the United States) that never arrive. This happens about once a year. One advantage—or the ultimate tease—is registered items are tracked at every station on their Via Dolorosa.
The point of loss is plain to see. The letters evaporate after reaching the Land of the Free.
The risks grow as they approach delivery. It’s obvious what’s going on; light fingered staff at the USPS see 'registered' as an advertisement. But getting the USPS Postal Inspection Service to help is impossible.
Calling them leads to slack-jawed run-around from the most cynical office in the entire USPS. It doesn’t help that the senders—most recently in Austria and Thailand—are innocently in counties where this stuff is taken seriously.
Their disbelief is part of the fun.
The final indignity is dealing with that innocent sender. They get the refund; they paid the registration fee. As the recipient, you must negotiate your refund with them. So far, the sellers are nice enough, just as discombobulated by the experience as I am. But the refund isn’t the point; I wanted the dingus, didn’t I?
The lesson is clear. I warn well-intentioned senders not to register. Non-registered mail seems immune to pilfering, so far. Grrr.

The flip side of your non arrival item is the disappointment and cost to the sender if the item was paid by PayPal. The seller loses as PayPal automatically favours the buyer who claims “non delivery.” A small <$20item is usually not worth paying for tracking and a regular Proof of Posting cert from my Royal Mail is not enough evidence for PayPal . the buyer gets the refund , the seller is the loser in that scenario, his item is gone and so is his payment . It may be possible to use the Certof post to claim back from Royal Mail but there is no guarantee of success. I have Praise however on another thread where a letter to France was delivered yesterday less than 48 hours from mailing in Scotland.

I send and receive mail daily. I have had very few things things lost over the years surprisingly enough, never anything "High Dollar" thankfully. It is never the high dollar items that come up missing, but it was the most important to me once. I grew up in Carlisle Ohio, a very small town. I have searched Ebay and other sites daily for 20 years, trying to find anything cancelled in Carlisle, Ohio. The first one I found was 10 years ago or so, yes, I had already been searching for 10 years at that item. I bought it on Ebay, it was about a 1900 envelope. It was only $5, so I thought I did great, but the anticipation to get it was killing me, as I always wanted one from my home town post office. What happened, it never arrived...neverrrr! It was lost to the black hole called "USPS". It took me another 5 years to find another Carlisle, Ohio cancellation, and I now have 3. Just got my third one a few months ago now. As a seller on Ebay, I mail most stamps in an envelope, with no tracking, all the time. My limit for sending with no tracking is $25. If it is over $25, I will send it first class, in a bubble mailer, just to get the tracking on it. I have only had to refund 1 person for a stamp in 22 years of selling on Ebay. I think I have had about 5 items never arrive from a seller in 22 years buying on Ebay, and none were high value. One time, the same person sent me the same twice, and I never got either one. Not sure if it was him or the Post Office that time, but he refunded me money. i have never had anything in a box not arrive when I mailed it. Oh, I had people tell me they never got it, until I told them the tracking shows they received it, then they shut up of course. i do hate people like that. But overall, I guess I have been lucky, in over 20,000 transactions, USPS has lost less than 10 items total, not too bad in my case. But to me, one is too many for the amount we pay them to get our items where they are supposed to go. You would think, for the amount we pay now, they would treat every item like gold and ensure it gets there on time and undamaged. Ok, my turn to shut up now.

I got an order in from amazon vuia USPS in a padded envelope and it was empty. The seal had failed so somewhere in some bin are some packets of Tom Yum soup seasoning!
I also just got a certified letter that I did not have to sign for receipt. The postal worker forgot to obtain my signature and retain the card.

But, she has been delivering my mail for 25 year snow and I live on a small dead end street where no one ever comes down. I am never there when she comes, so she just leaves packages on my front porch for me.

I mailed some stamps to angore and they took two weeks to go from Kentucky to North Carolina. I could have walked there and hand delivered them in less time than that! At least they got there, though.

Canada Post (or Israel post) is very slow. @kostia sent me a letter a month ago (?) and it has yet to arrive. Maybe CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency) has their greedy paws on it in Ottawa, holding it up. In any case, I hope it arrives soon!
Same with my package from Britain with the Stoneham catalog. I am still waiting for that too. CBSA must be at it again! You'd think their database would include me as a stamp collector & all mailings are safe to import!

brightonpete .... I hope the CBSA doesn’t hold up the package I’m about to send you, that is if the USPS gets it that far!
