Rod's post at the top of this page reminded me that I purchased these from a dealer on ebay a few years ago who opined they may be essays. I bought it...literally. Good thing they're pretty.

Are you saying they are from the Souvenir sheet James? There was rod222, in the auction room, and I happened to mention in passing to the fellow left of me, I was bidding on lot*** for some lovely cinderellas. He replied "Did you realise they are cut outs from a magazine?" We all get caught, one way or another, all part of the fun.

Ha, yes, they are from that souvenir sheet. Caused a bit of a stir on SCF when i got them because several people believed it as well. I recall having sent images to some 'expert' who was recommended and even he was pretty sure they were rare. Had my Caribbean condo all picked out and everything!

No need for proof Rod. I'm pretty sure that's were they originated. Here's one from the Society of Philatelic Americans Cleveland 1940

3rd ASDA NATIONAL POSTAGE STAMP SHOW
71st Armory, New York. November 16-18, 1951
Remainders from the 2nd ASDA show from 1950 were overprinted for use at the same venue in 1951. My notes tell me I have not yet posted the set with a Black overprint and I will do so. Another item found in London was this short set with a purple overprint which I had not seen before. I have no idea why there were 2 colours of overprint or quantities of each but it was nice to find these.

BOSTON STAMPS, MEDALS AND COINS EXHIBITION, 1935
Public Library, Boston. Feb 3rd-March 3rd.
The 4th Annual Exhibition organized by the Suburban Stamp and Curio Club produced these very fine-looking Souvenir Sheets which I saw for the very first time recently in a London Market. They certainly knew how to make show souvenirs in those days !

ASDA 1950 - The 2nd ShowThese stamps were printed for the 2nd American Stamp Dealers Association National Postage Stamp Show of 1950 by John W. Nicklin. John W. Nicklin was a well-known printer in New York who produced Poster Stamps for various stamp shows since the 1930s, as well as for the N.Y. World's Fair in 1939-40 and the ASDA Stamp Shows from 1949 thru the early 1970s. He experimented with unusual formats long before the USPS tried similar ideas on their stamps. 1. He printed sheets of 8, 10, 12 or 20 stamps, often in a "checkerboard" pattern. 2. NOT ALWAYS, but occasionally, he printed ONE stamp on the sheet with either an inverted design or an inverted center. These invert pairs are worth about double the normal pair. John W. Nicklin 1894-1973 Husband of Edna M. Nicklin. Worked for Scott Stamp & Coin Company from 1919 to 1929 and later became a partner in the K. Lissiuk Company. He established his own company and specialized in airmails. For many years he edited the Bulletin of the American Stamp Dealers association. Nicklin's book, Fabulous Stamps, is a favorite of mine.

Ralph Dyer & The 4th A.S..D.A. Show 1952Ralph Dyer was the first artist honored in 1981 by the American First Day Cover Society Court of Honor. He began designing and creating cachet's in 1926. He designed these poster stamps for the 4th American Stamp Dealers Association show held in 1952. Dyer's artwork for United Nations cachets may be seen here: Dyer U.N.Sadly, there's little information about Dyer's life on the web, but there are thousands of sites representing his extraordinary artwork and prolific contribution to philately. Thank you for viewing.

The first international philatelic exhibition held in the United States was held at the Engineering Societies' Building in New York City from October 27 through November 1, 1913. More on this historic philatelic event and these poster stamps is available here. Missing from the stamps shown by stampgeezer on page 3 of this thread were these two: If you've read the article linked above you'll know that an overzealous U.S. Attorney blocked the distribution of these stamps, fearing they would be fraudulently used as postage. The overprint was a comprise that allowed them to be circulated. The design of these stamps measures 36mmX46mm; much larger than the stamps in use during that era.

Set of four se-tenant pairs of poster stamps promoting the ASDA's 11th National Postage Stamp Show held in New York City from November 20-22, 1959. I wondered why rocket mail was the central theme on these stamps and set about Googling to find out why. It appears that on June 8, 1959, the US Navy fired a Regulus I missile from the USS Barbero (SSG-317) and directed it to land at the Naval Auxiliary Air Station at Mayport, Florida, near Jacksonville. While the submarine had been docked in Norfolk, Virginia, Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield helped place two blue and red metal containers, holding 3,000 letters, inside the sub’s missile prior to the flight. The identical letters from the PMG, which enthusiastically announced the experiment, were addressed to President Eisenhower, Vice President Nixon, the Cabinet, Members of Congress, top federal and state officials, and postmasters around the world. The missile was fired from the submarine shortly before noon on the 8th and arrived at Mayport twenty-two minutes later. The rocket mail theme seems to have been an attempt to appeal to Summerfield's enthusiasm for the possibility of postal uses for the technology. The 1959 test firing was the only incidence of using a missile to carry mail in the US.

The 12th American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDS) National Postage Stamp Show was held in New York Ctiy at the 71st Infantry Regiment Armory from November 18-20, 1960. The design on this set of 4 poster stamps features an image of Abraham Lincoln and a depiction of the attack on Fort Sumter, where the American Civil War started on April 12, 1861.

Plenty of nice and unusual designs from the ASDA shows. They would make a nice collection/study in themselves. I am of the opinion that souvenirs from shows in the USA are far better overall than anywhere else. The quality of labels and sheets from even the smaller events is very good compared to say, Great Britain or Australia [Cue Rotten Eggs from UK/Oz members !]. Below are four sheets from the 11th Philatelic Congress held in Cleveland in 1945, followed by similar sheets bi-coloured advertising show sponsors The Garfield-Perry Stamp Club.

It is always nice to be able to post an item that hasn't yet made an appearance on the forum. This souvenir sheet is from the 1934 American Philatelic Society (APS) Convention and Exhibition held in Atlantic City, New Jersey at the Hotel Madison August 27-31, 1934. The exhibition/convention was sponsored by the Atlantic City Stamp Club (APS Chapter 105). The Chapter is no longer in existence; however, the Madison Hotel still stands and is now called the Baymont Inn & Suites Atlantic City Madison Hotel.

That has long been one of my favourites. Lovely colours and layout. The challenge is to seek the other varieties of this sheet which have so far eluded me. It's fun searching though.

Elgin Philatelic Society, Elgin, Illinois. Second Annual Stamp Exhibition in 1938. No information if the Society is still in existence but they are not listed. Last Exhibition was in 1939 which used the same designs with one different colour and perforated centres. Another nice design from the USA !!

Elgin is about 35 miles west northwest of my childhood home. In case anyone is wondering about the clock design on the stamps, the Elgin National Watch Company was a major employer in Elgin from its founding in 1864 until it went out of business in 1968.

According to my list, the clock on the sheet shows 8 minutes before 2. Is that significant I wonder ?

BAY RIDGE STAMP SOCIETYThis is one of many clubs/societies or Exhibition items [USA] where information is hard to come by, and because of the cost of the items seen here I seemed to spend more time researching them. In the end it was frustrating. The Bay Ridge Stamp Society of Brooklyn, NY were formed in 1932, had their meetings on Tuesdays at the Masonic Club of Bay Ridge which leads me to think that they may have been a group of Freemasons but I have no confirmation of that. Also, the design of the label, later the Club Logo, leans me in that direction because of the crossed Tweezers/Magnifier. Again, this is only a feeling. The Gutter Block above came with a note that it was a Proof block with arrow Guide. I have no idea if that is the case. Below are the issued labels with colour variety and also an Imperf pair. The Fields-Picklo Catalogue lists both those and also a Green Label on Yellowish Paper and an Imperf example on card neither of which I have ever seen. The next item was issued to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the Club and is the single most expensive item I have ever purchased connected to USA Exhibitions/Clubs. I just could not put my hand down !! A beautiful sheet, gummed and one that I had never seen before and using the design of the original label [by now the club logo] as a centerpiece. The only other souvenirs issued by the Society were for the Stamp Centenary of 1940. Fields-Picklo lists the first 4 including the issue on cream paper with a scratch below the 'A' of postage on the crude-looking Penny Black. The last 2 sheets are unlisted so that may mean there are others after or during the times stated thus far. It remains to be seen. With no information found after 1940 I am assuming they did not continue but research is ongoing. Maybe they joined another group ? If indeed they were a group of Freemasons then did they merge with the Masonic Stamp Club of New York which were formed in the mid 1940's ? Incidentally, that club close it's doors this January due to lack of membership, not so much from the decline in Philatelists but more because of an even sharper decline in the popularity of Freemasonry. If anyone has heard of this Society or knows anything about them I would love to hear from you. Something curious to end on. From the outset of searching for information about the Bay Ridge Stamp Society I was a little intrigued by the name. There are many Philatelic societies and Philatelic Clubs; there are many Stamp Clubs; but how many Stamp Societies do you know ? Or maybe it's just me ?

It's taken me an age but I have managed to replace the images in this Cinderella Topic all bar three, for which I need to make new scans. this task will be completed tomorrow. There are other images missing from members and I would ask if you have posted in this topic, can you send me your scans so I can put them back up. If I know the item and have copies myself I will do it that way, but there are some missing from my collection so I need the scans. Just email me and I will do the work. Many thanks in advance for your assistance. I still have many, many more scans to replace but will trudge on with this work as time allows starting with the Cinderella section where most of my images were posted. Once again my apologies for the delay but it is a thankless task that PB left us !! To celebrate the near-completion of my images in the USA Philatelic Exhibition/Club topic, here are a couple of new ones to enjoy !!! Or not ! Above is a Proof copy in Sepia for the 1934 National Exhibition. Changes were made however for the final design which can be viewed at the beginning of Page One on this topic. Below is a perforated sheet and an Imperf block commemorating the Open Meeting of the Springfield Stamp Club on March 16th, 1928. (Springfield, Massachusetts). Londonbus1

Londonbus1 , I just wanted to give you a belated shout-out of appreciation for your contributions to this thread. Your latest post today enticed me to look back through this thread, and I have found some beautiful images of great material. Cleveland, Ohio is my hometown, and I love these stamps showing the Terminal Tower there. When it was completed in 1930, the Terminal was the 2nd tallest building in the world, and remained the tallest in the U.S. outside of New York City until 1964. It brings back lots of good memories for me. Also, the Garfield-Perry Stamp Club still hosts an annual philatelic exhibition which I have attended a couple of times over the years. So, the club is still active, but the show is now held in the spring rather than fall/winter, and it has been nicknamed "The March Party". I am not sure if they still make any stamps for that event, but I will try to look into that and let you know what I can find.

Well Done jamesw !!!! Great to see those images that I'd forgotten about. The downside is that now I have more to search for !! Thanks to Beryllium Guy for his kind words and I am happy he enjoyed looking back over this topic. Now for a couple of extras.......... Whilst I cannot find any trace of a Philadelphia Stamp Club (maybe the name has changed over time), I quite enjoyed finding these club items and love the design. The Philadelphia Despatch Post issued local stamps 1842-3 and the design was continued by D.O.Blood & Co. 1845-47. According to the Scott Specialized Catalogue about the 19thC locals, "The design shows a messenger stepping over the Merchants' Exchange Building, which then housed the Government Post Office, implying that the private post gave faster service" !! I wonder . Easy to understand then why the Philadelphia Stamp Club chose the design !! I have two types, I believe there are others.

The Bronx County Stamp Club, better known as 'Bipex' (Bronx Interboro Philatelic Exhibition) have issued a number of sheets for their Club and events. Formed in 1932 and most souvenirs were issued between 1937 and 1949, the heyday of Exhibition sheets and labels. Shown below are 3 types from 1937, 1938 and 1939.
