Looks like an interesting series, or rather "era"! I have nothing of France, maybe its time has come!
Although I have enough on my plate with what I have. Do I really need more?

Pete, if you decide to start France classics, you need Maury or Yvert&Tellier, be able to understand a bit of french and arm yourself with patience and time - I have started France in May and am just finishing custom pages up to the Sower series and mounting, there are 2, one "lignée" and the other "camée". I just looked at the APS StampStore & noted prices in the 100's of dollars! Maybe I back pedal a bit on that!

yes, many dups, but many to study. although a quick glance tells my somewhat trained eye, most Ceres are Type 1, but it is OK- I will at some point soon place all on one or two...or three stock card pages and starat the process of examining each and sorting into the various Types and states.and with any luck i will satisfy all for this group. I also received more Semeuse today, not much special but both color variation of the 35c which is mainly why I made an offer... one denomination of precancel I do not have, but otherwise.... more dups. i am trying to stay off the sites for a bit as i think i have several months of study and page preparation in front of me, as well as some effort to find homes for the many stamps from places I am not interested. My focus is slowly steeping like a nice tea on a Saturday morning, and I believe I may get down to maybe 5-7 countries of Europe and the early US... (and of that I am no no longer certain ...) oh how my so believed interests have changed in less than a year but the magic the captivated me as a young lad is stronger than ever!

and if anyone is wondering, the 40c bistre Ceres (smaller set) postmark 3880 is Saint-Valery-sur-Somme (there is no 8880) -a northern coastal region of France just in case....

Sweet stuff you've got there stainlessb Good selection of different numeral postmarks to, they're worth a seperate collection on their own! The 40c orange on the bottom row has a marvelous CDS strike to, definetively a keeper! I guess you know already, but in case you don't: The 'MQ(E)' on the 10c eagle of General French Colonies signifies it was used on Martinique, and as such can be considered a Martinique forerunner. Even better: the 80c eagle (the very last stamp) appears to me to potentially have the 'mute lozenge' with the caracteristics of those only used in French Oceania: Each dot in the lozenge pattern is made up of a rather large, well defined 'diamond', and the diamonds are arranged in an orderly fashion. These stamps positively identified as used in Oceania are sought after and command a significant premium by the specialists. I might be wrong on my assessment tough, but that's my guess. Magic - enjoy!!

I received this small lot to day of Yvert 17B 80c. The leftmost stamp is Gross chiffre ( large figures (numbers/letters)- althhough all sold as "rose" I wonder if the ones on the right may not be 17A carmine (6 shades) - for now, I will simply contemplate, especially as I get more to compare

Received today a nice 80 c rose YT 17B without laurels with a obliteration I don't believe I have seen (have to check) D32 and a mint, with gum, very lightly hinged 2 centimes YT 26B Type II I believe- have to do some color comparisons, but it appears to be"clear" red-brown (claire) as opposed to dark (fonce)

A nice small study lot I received today. I have culled a cou=ple of severely flawed stamps, but a few of these are quite nice, and there is some color to work with!

An assortment of various pairs accumulated over the years, mostly for the cancellations. The last row is Yvert 15 with the large square point obliteration.

organizing/cleaning and going through way more unsorted world stamps than I thought I (still) had not gone through. Mixed in with a very yellowed glassine with Fr. colonies written on it I find this! Y & T 27, appears to be Type I (although obliteration makes this a bit of challenge) and what looks to be pale grey lilac, with a really nice SON, the lowest CV of the types/shades, but nice none the less!

Stan stainlessbusing Maury, I would agree on a 27 I Type Ia - gris-lilas pâle (pale grey lilac) - but that nice postmark makes it more difficult René

[Question and replies moved from another thread] Help and question ..... Should I post this here, where it will soon get buried,or start a separate new thread? Any way this little fella turned up in an old Lincoln album .. in a sorry state with the top missing, but what remains has very odd perforations. My Gauge doesn't go lower than 10. my Gibbons Catalogue (as I do not collect France, I do not have an Yvert ) Mentions a private perf 7 done in 1861 with the perf machine being sold to a dealer in 1875 ... Is this a stamp perfed with that machine from 1861? or has someone been fiddling with it later ? The cancel looks like "189" in a star . Any help or comments welcomed

vikingeck I believe this may be one of the piquage Susse issues. The Susse brothers invented a machine which perforated early stamps just before perforated stamps were issued . I posted something similar in July 2021....apologies for not knowing how to link this post. Anglob

Help and question ..... Should I post this here, where it will soon get buried,or start a separate new thread? Actually, there is a dedicated Napoléon III thread that I had not noticed before I made my post a few days ago (maybe Admin can move my post and yours there). That's probably where this stamp belongs. As far as the large hole perforations go, the Yvert and Tellier catalog mentions them. My Cérès catalog does provide quotations for the "Piquage Suisse" varieties, but only provided the stamps are still in mint condition, on cover, or on piece. I agree with anglobob that this is what you have in hand.
