After reading blaamand's tread Worldwide collections - How do you organise them? I have been thinking a lot on how I organise my collection. I did restart collecting in February 2018 and have done massive hoarding since then. This has resulted in a enormous amount of stock books and binders. I have collected Europa, but playing with the thought that why not collect the whole world?
And the reason is obvious, I don't have the space to all the stock books needed. One book for each country? That is a lot and need a lot of space. Then blaamand came up with his way of collecting, and what he used to collect the stamps in. But changing all the stock books to Lighthouse Grande Classic Signum is a huge cost. But then again I could reduce the cost by selling of the old stock books, some of them are not even used! And I do not need the same amount of Grande binders as blaamand ordered, I don't have that amount of stamps.
I figured out that I could have a good start with 15 (+3 I just bought for test) Lighthouse Grande Classic Signum binders with slipcase and 1000 pages. I sent a mail to Nordfrim and asked for an offer. I did get a €165 rebate, so I went for it.
So what I need to do now is clean of the stock books I have, sell them and sell stamps I don't need. I do not need to bay more stamps for a while, will save some money there ( if I manage to stay off auction sites).
Then I need to transfer stamps into the new system, witch I may need to customise to my way of collecting. Anyway I will be busy during autumn and winter. I will hopefully get more space in my shelf. I will get rid of a lot of stuff laying around.
I will keep some stock books, those that are set up as duplicate books. They are all set up with space for every stamp issued up to ca year 2000. I have those books for Scandinavian counties, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal , Ireland and started on France. But I will try to get rid of the rest of the duplicates.
I did a count of how many collecting units I have, it was way more than I did imagine!
And after making that oversight, I discovered a huge movingbox full of stock books that had sliped the counting!
I'm relay exited of this new approach to my collecting as the way I have done it the last year could not continue. I hope to reduce the units I have to 1/3 of what I have now, with more variation and quality.
