I am at 1.5.4 (2018). Upgrades have been very slow. LibreOffice Draw does a much better job converting PDFs and PageMaker files than Scribus. One gripe with Scribus is how it does (really does not) tables so limits my usage. Software is like this. You love 90% but one or two poor or not well implemented functions make it a show stopper.

I am at 1.5.3 i had some issues with 1.5.4 freezing up- maybe they fixed that? I tried LibreOffice Draw at the same time I tried Scribus and opted for Scribus, for me it seemed a a slightly less learning curve. It would be a pain to chainge platforms now unless whatever I went to could import the .sla files from Scribus

Maybe you could export the Scribus files to something else that could be easily worked on in another app.
What are the export options for Scribus? If it is a proprietary format only, well, I'd pass on it.

I have no complaints on 1.5.4 but freezing may depend on what features you are using.

I don't have a problem with software updates as for the last 11 years I've been using Visio 2000 embedded within a Word document! Once the template was initially setup for my Lighthouse 13 ring binders, it's been a simple case of duplicating an appropriate page then moving/adding the outline box for each stamp and adding text to the text boxes. The alignment/group feature within Visio is simple and effecient so it's very quick to create a page. Click print and it's done! My main problem however, has always been what to write within the text box.

Was on quarantine pending results of COVID test the last three nights (test came back today negative) so got my AAT pages finished up and the stamps mounted into the correct Vario pages
AAT Page 2 Key
AAT Page 3 Key
AAT Page 4 Key
AAT Page 5 Key
AAT Page 6 Key
And here is how page 5 looks when the keys are combined with the Vario pages and stamps put in their proper place. Unfortunately while remounting my father's AAT collection discovered one of the stamps from the 1984 views definitives was damaged in the bottom corner, so now I have a hole on page 5 to fill.

I've begun a new project: Album pages for Albania up to 1945. A few pages of the early issues: The pages will be printed on both sides. On the opposing left page is historical and postal history for the stamps on the right page. I include stamps and varieties not usually listed in generic catalogs. The "mesh" on the 4th page is meant for a transparent mount-strip. There are many rare varieties of the stamps in question, and this enables me to include some in the album without having a fixed space for it. To be printed on A4 158g paper with 4 punched holes (3cm margin on the left side).
Made with Apple Pages.

Extraordinary Albania pages, Morten. That's a lot of effort for pages housing a few uncommon stamps - however it looks great, makes for very interesting reading and sets the stamps in a historical perspective. Well done!! Looking forward to see the continuation. btw - I recognize those small areas of 'mesh' as you call them, dedicated for varieties. Cool to see this concept used by others. I've done the same for a few years, however I refer to them as quadrille 'playground' - for deep-dive, investigative and creative stamp-fun

Thanks for your kind words.
Yes, I first saw the quadrille element on your pages. I love it. Really builds the bridge between albums and Vario. It was the final nail in the "Vario-Coffin" for me :-)

blaamand has inspired me to start paying more attention to postmarks. Here are pages for Ottoman Post in Albania, forerunners to the regular issues. The table on the first page is a work in progress. Lots of research still to go before it is complete. My goal is to collect at least one of each postmark type:

Excellent pages, Morten ( classicalstamps), thanks for posting! I also agree with your comment, as Jon has inspired me to pay more attention to postmarks, too.... he's good that way!

Had the night off work so after Colnect work was caught up I knocked out page keys for Ross Dependency, finishing up the Antipodean Antarctic Territories for now.
Only 4 pages to cover the issues up to end of 1996, including the Antarctic Expedition issues of 1908 and 1911-1913. Catalog References are for Gibbons, Scott, Michel and Campbell Paterson. Made an intro page that included image on how to differentiate between the Royle Plate and Waterlow Plate versions of the 1908 Antarctic Expedition issue, but page didn't convert right for JPG, so instead I'll just post the image I made
Royle Plate - Incomplete Pearl at top left corner, pearls on middle left-hand side have shadingWaterlow Plate - Complete Pearl at top left corner, pearls on middle left-hand side do not have shading. So a productive night, as I know prepare for the hell of the week before Thanksgiving to come as I work as night manager at a large Supermarket here in Columbus

Tonight started a new project to get my Canada organized so time to start making key pages for my eventual albums. Got the sterling currency issues done tonight (1851-1859)
Creating pages based on the listings in Unitrade, Gibbons and Michel, as well as information from the excellent blog canadianphilately.blogspot.com/ which has wonderful detail on most of Canada's stamp issues from the start until the 1970s. This will probably be quite a project for the next few months, but need to get things set up for Canada.

I typically choose one or two issues of a country to "plate" as part of my collection. Here's how I've chosen to make pages for one of these from Albania: 1 page "simplified" with generel info 2 pages with 49 plate-able types w. descriptions

I have been looking at various ways to organize my Machins and finally decided to try chronologically. The denomination order seemed uninteresting. I had seen some free pages and decided to replicate with a test using some of the regional issues. The nice aspect is that it forces me to do more research on dates. I took the free page PDF and started adding catalog numbers and additional information like printer that will be used in my version. The free mages make a nice digital scrapbook to add details. These pages have the key work (sorting by issue date) but I will do my own in Scribus by adding more varieties, additional information, and other enhancements. I will recognize www.gbstampalbums.co.uk for the free pages (sample of notes made for planning). I started with a regional since fewer varieties to deal with initially. Using Adobe Acrobat reader, I have added comments to PDF (printers, etc)

Finished up my page inserts for the Canada First Cents Issue 1859-1867 My goal was to provide a representative collection that provided for the three types of perforation used and at least the main groupings of shades for the various values. Between Unitrade, Gibbons, and research online, I think I've got a happy medium that provides a nice range of coverage but not attempting to try and get every variation on each issue that Whitworth lists. I've also tried to leave enough space so that if I do get the ambition (and win the lottery to fund that ambition ) to get more shade/perf varieties, I can expand without having to reorganize all the pages. Now on to the Large Queens ETA - Apologies for the page distortion, anyone know what to set in Photoshop so that when you convert PDF to JPG you do not get that weird stretching if there is a lot of blank space on the PDF page??

I worked on a concept page for my GB Regionals including regional Machins. I started with a regional since much simpler. The time consuming aspect is researching all the issue dates. This is my 3rd or 4th attempt to come to a design that has flexibility. The design follows Steiner style (border, font) so it will match The key is I wanted a more chronological layout. In order to have a more compact layout (more stamps per page), I am group by year. This concept should work at least for the regionals. Except for adding printer variations it does not go much beyond SG Concise specialization. I ignore gum and, errors (missing watermarks or phosphor, etc). I still need to check spacings, centering, and get through enough pages before committing a lot of time. Now, I just need to get the information on the page. Another decision is how much duplicate information is added for each grouping. There are errors in the text since the first step is to get the stamp boxes on the page and a lot of it is just coping an existing row and then moving around.

I started my first night of vacation from work tonight, so got the Large Queens pages worked up. Again using a mix of Unitrade, Gibbons, Michel and online information to create the pages, wanted to have sections for the various potentials between the Duckworth papers and shades, plus perforation varieties in a few areas. I will say this, trying to map Gibbons, Michel and Unitrade numbers was a bit of a labor, especially for the 15c Large Queen. Gibbons lists a couple of shades I could not match up to anything in Unitrade, and I think Gibbons has the Pirie paper issue wrong - Unitrade says the shade is Greenish Grey but Gibbons says it is Lilac Grey - which sounds like two very different shades to me, which can't be right. I'll stick with Unitrade on this.
So about five whole pages for the Large Queens, at least it will give me something to do if I win the lottery On the last page, the first Small Queen Ottawa prints will be inserted after the last of the Duckworth paper sections, so as to try and maintain a bit of chronological order in the structure of the album. Hopefully the post-1872 Large Queens issues I've laid out are flexible enough to insert among the Small Queens. Now to spend the next few days figuring out what I want to do with the Small Queens. At least being on vacation this week I'll have some extra time available.

more progress with Marianne de Gandon, I think I may be able to wrap up in 3-4 more pages (including the 4 large format issues). I will print the page which describes the variants at work tomorrow on the ivory paper The size is the same but when I converted from PDF to JPG it appears to have compressed the file a bit (borders are same dimension!)

Sooo... I recently bought an oversized printer and finally got around to making pages with it. The new page size is 10" x 11.5", and I'm starting my album renovations with Germany. Example page is attached; I thought it would be a good idea to get critiques before I actually start building and printing too many more of these. Intent is to alternate pages of mint with pages of cancelled, with a 3rd or+ page (when necessary) of color and perf varieties, "precursor" or other interesting cancels, cut stationary corners, or whatever other odd and tiny bits I find floating around. It's a pdf file I'm attaching here, so who knows if it'll come across... Any recommendations for adjusting the page?
