Antarctica is more like South Earth. As time goes on, I get more interesting in organizing pages geographically. If you take British Commonwealth, they would be in many regionals such as British Atlantic. British Caribbean, British South Atlantic. etc.

What I collect: Worldwide - Stamps and Postmarks - not enough time...

Post by blaamand on Oct 10, 2020 2:44:35 GMT
Here's another type of DIY pages I am working on. In parallel with making album pages for the stamps of each country, I am also making album pages for postmarks. Today I even attempted to make an album page for Perfins. Normally I have not paid too much attention to perfins, but in the case of Mauritius the numbers of different known perfins are that limited that it is an achievable task. So, here are the known perfins of Mauritius, on DIY album page. Mauritius Perfin Album My postmark (and now also perfin ) album pages are not exactly involving a design process, which we are often discussing in this thread. I've made an excel template that can generate these pages from a list of POs names, with the option to add additional information. So given the fixed and somewhat 'mechanical' lay-out of that original excel-template, the only thing I can actually play with is the number of positions on each line. So creating these pages goes much faster than normal album pages. What takes time is to find the information for the list that excel use to generate the product. This system is not suitable for stamps though, will get too mechanical I think. (Note - if anyone is collecting perfins of Mauritius, the pdf is available at a terrific price )

Played golf and still had energy left over, so todays effort- no backstory that I could find, no listed color variants, some other variants, but nothing I have focused on (nor seem to have), but another small group now mounted and dupes moved to a separate area/stock.

The latest effort France 1945 Marianne de Gandon- there were 5 series of this stamp plus tariff issues, so it will take 4 pages to house all (including some variants). I will likely leave out the background discussion on the the latter 3 pages.I thought about dropping the France header, but that would be an abrupt change mid-stream with pages already printed and mounted before and after, so for continuity, the country header remains as is and background is only on first page. If I start a new country I may rethink this as it would free up some space and allow for more stamps per page.... and maybe not!) if you see a glaring error speak up please!?! I will not print on Vellum or begin mounting until all pages for this series (of series) are completed

Hello clivel Is it possible to put an image on the border? If you make a image looking like a title and place it on the border? Hi tobben, Sorry for the delay in replying, I have spent the last few days helping my son and his family move - saying goodbye to the grand-kids was the hardest part, no longer a short 20 minute drive to visit them, they are now a 2 hour drive and 2 hour ferry trip away.
One can absolutely use an image and place it over the border, as long as the image background is not transparent it will overlay the border. The biggest disadvantage is if you have a number of different headings then you will have to create a new image for each. Clive

How about using a blank white graphic as the image to be overlaid, and then printing text directly over top of that blank image? That way you would only need a handful of blank images of the appropriate widths, and you could use the text function for whatever it is you choose to print without needing to create images for that text heading. Page 2 I'll print tomorrow at work on the color laser printer on the ivory Vellum, but I think I have captured all the typos (?) edit: I may redo the images as I have just committed to buying the 720h "lines connected" and I have the 720i "lines erased" variant, and may take some higher res images with my digital scope (and maybe a bit larger so one need not squint)! I believe this will complete the series, (all of them). and soon return to thhe Sower and Sage series.

At the start of each country (or section of a country if it will be in more than one binder) I make a page to show watermarks, plate flaws, overprint varieties etc so that I have them as a reference if needed when working on the album. When I first started making pages I would include these things right next to the stamps, as the Australia page shown below, but I think it looks better to put this reference stuff in its own separate page at front rather than clutter the index pages. Australia was one of the first countries I started making pages for back about three years ago. I've refined my page making quite a bit since, and plan to eventually re-do my Australia pages as right now I think they are very cluttered compared to what I am making now. I found a better font (the current one I am using is "Gabriola" and I don't try to include face value or variety information under the stamp box - now that goes inside the box. Making your own pages is always a learning experience and takes some time before you find the method and look that you eventually come to like.

These are wonderful pages djcmh . Thanks for sharing! It's a neat contrast between your first pages and the recent ones. And I love that AAT set. Especially the 1C stamp. I'll have to look out for that set.

Do you track 4 different catalog systems because you want aggregate completeness? I have sometimes made a scan from a catalog of watermarks since I never remember them all. I want to do more country information pages but lower priority. The Scott die variety info typically involves a murky image. I would be interested in seeing more of these these since I could reuse for my collection! I have North Borneo now!

Custom made pages for the Prexies. Made using AlbumEasy 4.1.0. Printed on 65 lb cream color card stock and Showgard mounts. I've still got a few holes to fill and a couple that I'd like to upgrade, but I'm happy with the way this one came out.

Apology for delay in reply, between working a lot of overtime in real life and very busy keeping Colnect updated for new issues not had much other stamp free time the last couple weeks. In part yes aggregate completeness - covering varieties that are not just in Scott or Gibbons (less an issue with smaller, more modern countries like AAT but for pre-1950 or so issues you can parse out a lot of variants) Also in part it is ease of reference if I am doing online shopping - if I am on Delcampe having Michel numbers is very useful. I have a huge library of specialized catalogs from around the world and I love variant collecting - there is always a good chance to discover rare varieties in a dealer stock if you know what to look for from a specialized catalog from outside the USA. And here is my Brunei "intro" page with the various watermark, plate flaw and overprint references

anyone using Scribus- have you updated to the newest version? If so, any issues opening pages formatted on earlier versions?
I can't find much in the way of "What's new in 1.5.6"

I got the email message from SoundForge, but not much fanfare
I think I will also wait- I'm still one version back from the latest
Update- it is a beta test version for OSX Big Sur (I'm still on Mojave as a fair number of my recording apps have issues with Catalina)
best to wait
I get frustrated enough on my own!

If my graphics app dies due to system updates, I may try Scribus, but for now I use the app called "Graphic".
