Hello,
My name's Will Castillo. I was born in Venezuela and moved to USA in 2011. Software engineering is what puts stamps in my albums. I've been collecting, for real, since 2000. I started collecting when I was 9 but stopped the hobby in my teens to get it again in my late 20s. I've had some short forced hiatus since then (12 to 18 months at most) but I've been way more consistent and never really totally off of it (checking on auction houses, checking on collector friends, etc.)
I heavily focused my efforts on Venezuela's ESCUELAS series. At a lesser but still important degree on Venezuela's locals up to 1903, and finally just having fun with its pre-1900 revenues, and cinderellas (old and modern.)
One aspect of the philately that I like the most is the history behind the stamps and I feel like a kid on the park when i'm doing a research about a stamp or series...I've been fortunate enough to "discover" a few things about some of our pieces (specially revenues and locals.) Many are published on a website called ASOFILCA. Another aspect I really like is the study of fakes and forgeries.
More recently, I was lucky to get my hands in a nice Colombia collection and that's what has been giving me most fun recently: To start over again on a challenging area, with ZERO prior knowledge about it. Man, I love those sovereign states! Expect some bugging from me about Colombia pieces for a good while!
Alright... I think that's enough for now. Happy to be here!
All the best, Will

Will, Welcome to our Forum! I've adjusted your membership status so that you can start posting in other areas so please don't be shy. Your professional background should make familiarization with the Forum's processes a simple task but, should you encounter any difficulty, please don't hesitate to ask. With regard to your newfound pursuit of Colombia, I think member Jerry B will be most interested in lending his expertise.

Welcome Will ! Hope you will enjoy your stay with us. Nice to know you are collecting Cinderellas too so I will be very interested in your posts. I only collect Cinderellas but don't believe I have much from Venezuela or Colombia. But it will be fun nonetheless. Looking forward to seeing some of your collection. Londonbus1

Greetings, Will, from a US expatriate living in France. Welcome aboard! I have some representative material from your areas of specialization, but will be very glad to learn more. I enjoy all things philatelic, but the classic material speaks to me most! Enjoy your time with us! -Chris

Jerry B I noticed it! Beryllium Guy Thanks Chris! I had to cancel a trip to France two weeks ago! My wife's sister got married in Clapiers... or Montpellier? Anyway... I'm eager to know France and Spain! Re: Stamps... Please, show that material! I'm always curious about ESCUELAS stamps out there(1871-1880)! The more I look the more interesting pieces I found!

Well... Guess who has reached his "adulthood", AKA his 50th post, in The Stamp Forum? You got it.
It might look like a small thing but it's not for me. I've been in a few stamp related forums in the past and for some reason they never hooked me in. I'm not going to name names, not just because it's part of TSF rules but more importantly because it's not my style... but I'll mention that the egos of some of other forums' admins... or the excessive cop complex (thinking they need -or have the right- to policy every person's move)... was too much for me. Philately, for me, is just about learning and enjoyment. And I think I found that here. People are happy to share info if they think they can, they respect other people's approach... I got a well-deserved feedback when I unvoluntarily broke one of the forums rules (I have to admit I get a little excited everytime I see a big lot of ESCUELAS so...)... but the moderator/admin didn't editer my post... they understood no "evil" intention was behind it so just courteously reminded me the rule. So yeah, this is the first time I reach such a milestone (50 posts!) in any stamp forum. Thank you TSF! looking forward to the next 50!

Yes indeed, congratulations, Will , on getting to your 50th post! I know it meant a lot to me. In your earlier post, you said: I think that this is great for all of us to hear, and the rest of us are looking forward to the next 50 posts, too! Enjoy your time with us, and thanks again for the nice giveaway! I will figure out a way to get one of those books from you at some point! Best Regards, Chris
