angore - That sounds interesting. I am not able to open the files at all for some reason. Would definitively appreciate if you can convert to excel and share! Much appreciated I was able to open them on my iMac, but it was a strange format that was unusable. Ah well, I have started making my own, not that it is anywhere as complex as yours, Jon, but suits me OK.

When I posted the above, I was in a hurry at the time to post the screenshot. The file is in .dbf (dBase) format and can be opened with LibreOffice Calc or Excel if you change the file type. You can save it to a spreadsheet file type. This is what you see when you open the file.
These were created by users of StampCatPlus an inventory program. I am surprised the website is still alive.
It should be a good starter file for an inventory

Thanks angore - I need to check this when I get back home onshore, believe my company's internet security prevents me from opening them.... The inventory file is now on its way across cyberspace to another 3 recipients! You all know who you are. Hope it can be useful because I do not accept returns

mikeclevenger - Hi Mike, yes I know you and your ongoing involvement in Germany and states Unfortunately I haven't built a database for Germany yet. I am happy to share my inventory template with you - and would be delighted if Germany data is entered and I can have a copy of that. Presume you'll be referring to Michel ? Will send this evening. Jon Thanks, it may take me a while to do it, but I will do it. I will even do it in Michel, as I am getting used to it now. I need to take German classes so I could read it easier than using the Google translator. LOL. Michel has so much more than the Scott catalog, I like it much better. But I will probably include the Scott number too.
Thanks again for the templates.
Mike.

If you spend a lot of time entering just basic information into spreadsheets, you can save time by just buying StampManage. It includes data for many countries (not nearly 100% complete) in an open format (Microsoft Access file). You can just export the data to Excel or other format and then reuse how you want. There are over 400,000 entries. The organization is based upon Scott using Scott country and Scott numbers but a field is provided for an alternate catalog number.
The worldwide version is $80.
I use StampManage for my inventory and have contributed to the database (over 4000 entries myself).
