Not a collector of Vatican City, but I recent acquired a set of Sc. 110-121, Commemorating the 400th Anniversary of the Council of Trent, 1946, for my WW collection. As I mounted these stamps, I wondered why, St. Angela Merici, Sc. 111, and St. John Fisher, Sc. 115, were included in this set? Bishop John Fisher, I think, because of his resistance to Henry VIII's divorce from his wife Catherine and to Henry's denial of the Pope as supreme authority over religious matters in England. This issue figured in the Council of Trent's agenda. For St. Angela Merici, however, I cannot find any connection to the Council of Trent. Does anyone know why these two were included in this set?
Thanks.

This video is my first attempt to film part of my collection. I’ve often thought how nice it would be to see a friend’s stamp album and that it would be fun to share mine with you. So here we go.
This is the first book of my Vatican collection. I don’t have a fancy album or binders because I prefer the flexibility of Hagnar and Vario sheets. I have added audio commentary so unmute if you’re interested.
The video is about five minutes, so not too very lengthy. Please do let me know what you think. I do plan to zoom in on the next one - when the iPad does video it zooms in a bit so we adjusted the camera position, but the playback is zoomed out, thus the chunky margins. Hubby and I will fine tune and improve on the next one.
Also, I’m hoping this might inspire some of you to also share your collections with the forum.
FYI - the squeaky noise in the background is my schnauzer boy attacking his toy squirrels! LoL

Oh - this video isn’t getting much positive feedback - it is really rather boring to watch, isn’t it? Well, it IS a good idea for insurance purposes, as kasvik noted, just probably not the best post for a stamp forum. Part of the problem is that you can’t see fine detail. Another may be that this isn’t a popular collecting area here. Oh well. It was just an experiment.

I was thinking that scans would be a better display. Scan the pages, then make a video of them, or in my case a local website with the pages display in a browser. When one moves the cursor, a pop-up window could appear with the stamp info. Of course doing that takes away from the making of album pages and just plain toying with the stamps! Everything takes time and the video is good to do for insurance purposes. I have done none of the above. They are all good ideas though!

Terri,
i enjoyed the “ flip through” of Book 1. You have given me inspiration on how to organize one of my collections.
Your commentary was sufficiently informative and clearly spoken.
Do you organize by issue date?
It would be nice to be able to zoom for close ups to see more detail. As we say, collecting is always a work in progress.

Thanks so much, dgdecker ! That is exactly what I was trying to accomplish - just present a quick peek at another member’s collection. Yes, I do realize that there are no high resolution scans - that would eat up a LOT of photo hosting and would take a colossal amount of time to accomplish. These are mostly common stamps and IMHO scans of that caliber would be treating hamburger like prime rib.

It would just be so much easier that if you see something you like you would not have to leave 5he Forum and look for a better copy. I know I live in a dream world on this issue. david

There are plenty of options for flip book software to assemble images or pdf.
I have scanned my entire worldwide collection and one intent was to create a flip book of countries. One goal was to be able to check collections for missing issues without having to drag out the album (plus less wear and tear on pages).
I had been tempted to upload all of them to the tsfimage host but the host does not appear to have a flipbook like option or ability to scroll through an image. This is why I asked questions about file quantity and size limits for the image host. I did discover that Win 10's Photo software actually gets close. If you have the scans with order to naming and you select the first one you can page through each scan by just using the mouse wheel or arrow key.
Does the tsfimage host have the abilty to create something similar such as a slide show based upon an album.
The most complete collection is Rod222's collection on Steiner pages but he does not post here any more and he just posts in threads so not organized.
I am sure there is someone here like PostmasterGS that knows what would be needed.

Mailed on September 10, 2020, this item came to me today in the mail, more than 82 days later. This is the first postcrossing postcard I have received from the Vatican. Note the doubled receiving date stamps when it arrived here in Grand Rapids, MI. I wonder if the postal clerk initially stamped it incorrectly with December 21 and ran it through again as December 22? Or did it get run through twice, two days in a row? The stamp was issued in 2019 and is one of a set of 4 honoring Pope Francis upon the 7th Year of the Pontificate. It is noted as Michel 1953 on Colnect.

My late dad had 2 stamp collections he tried to keep to date: Canada and Vatican City - I remember his MNH collection of Vatican, which included 100% of the stamps, up to date. Since one day, a priest wanted to buy it.......he did not resist and sold it (not for the financial gains) and I was not very happy - but respected his decision even though he had invested time and and money in it. Yesterday, my brother (who had cleared the walk-in safe at my father's Newspaper business) many years ago, brought me a box with "timbres" (stamps) written on it....his correspondence, favorite auctions etc., some articles on the Vatican......and I found a binder full of Vatican stamps (duplicates I am certain) Decided to show some of the early ones found from 1929 (Scott 9), with some from 1933 (Pope Pius 28-29-30), from 1939 and some surcharged ones. I noticed that many had a pretty good CV in 2021 - will be checking the Scott Specialized 2021 if I decide to inventory them. René

thought I'd post pix of the very few issues I have for 'Poste Vaticane' - was sure I had more, but suspect they were modern and may have gone into the bin. These few span 1933 to 1945, I think, and as with any country I've kept them simply because they aren't modern - it's always worth keeping 'old' stamps from any country - all too easy to dispose of unappealing pieces then regret it later. So, in no particular order .................. SG 88 - the rather large bluey-green 25 cent value is 'The Consecration of Archbishop Pacelli' - seems to be an issue from 'The Popes Episcopal Silver Jubilee' series from 1943. T wo items from 'The Arms of Pope Pius XII (12th): SG 80 (1940) - the 5 cent lake ............. IMHO this has the appearance of carmine more than lake - the latter, according to SG is darker than this stamp. SG 100 (1945) - the 30 cent brown. SG 93 (Second Series) - 80 cent chestnut-brown - 1944 - 'Flagrante Bello Misereor Super Turbam' - which may translate as Prisoners of War Relief Fund. This is the standing group with a spectral vision overhead. SG 20 from May 1933 - black and sepia - 10 cents title is 'Wing of Vatican Palace'. SG 26 from May 1933 - chocolate and lake - 75 cents - 'Vatican Gardens and Dome of St. Peter's - this is an appealing image, has perspective/depth to the view. SG E4 from May 1933 - blue and brown - Lire 2.50 - a detailed and sumptuous view of the Vatican City - One of the Express Letter Stamps (SG E1 to E14 - 1929 through 1953). Since 1929, Vatican City has produced some v. attractive and gorgeous stamps: views/panorama/religious flavoured themes and historical characters - though no idea if later issues continued the same quality. As Terri (philatelia) has commented, the start date means there aren't acres of C19 issues to collect, and you should be able to put together a reasonable collection without breaking the bank (aside from just one or two items), though probably not my scene. Perhaps a tendency for the issuer to overdo it as with San Marino and one or two other stamp tourist countries. Any and all errors are mine, so comments corrections welcome. thanks.

So, in no particular order .................. Paul, did not repeat your post - Just to mention that my late dad had the full V.C. up to date. He bought directly from Rome ( a good priest) and I had a box of his transactions. He sold the collection to a local priest (without my consent LOL !!) I did collect from other sources and at the end did a giveaway on TSF - but it was not my dad's collection in a Special binder. He loved the V.C. stamps René

paul1rendenPaul and Rene, I moved your posts specifically about Vatican City stamps to this thread. Terri's ( philatelia) thread is about making these "Tips for Collecting...." and her post about Vatican City was just an example of what one could write for those posts. Thanks for your posts, guys. Always happy to see posts showing stamps with good descriptions in them.

I have a fairly extensive collection of Vatican stamps. I enjoy the beauty of many of the stamps and to learn more about the religion I profess. I always thought I knew everything I needed to know about almost any country I collect but I must admit I have learned a great deal from my Vatican collection. My bulging binders of Vatican issues hold a lot of history and stamps that demonstrate the history of the religion. Truly a rewarding exercise for me.
