I know it has a red Maltese cancellation, but it sounds a bit high to me based on other examples I'm seeing on e-Bay
IMHO

This Scott 2 is listed BIN at $179.99 (others are listed higher) -- your's is cheaper and has more margin so it may not be such a bad price.

Anyone know an on-line resource that compares Gibbons/Michel/Scott numbers for early UK stamps?
I'm looking at a canceled 1855 Victoria blue 2d, perf 16, large crown. Michel 11AI says the auction, but I'm in the clouds without much trust or the right catalogues.

Hi Aaron ( kasvik), According to Colnect's entry for this stamp, it matches the following: - Michel: #11
- Scott: #15
(referred to as "Stamp Number" on this site) - Yvert et Tellier: #13
- AFA number GB 11
If I read my Stanley Gibbons catalogue correctly, this variant is also listed as Stanley Gibbons #27. Hope that helps!

kasvik - my 17th edition Stoneham catalogue has that stamp as #V43, plate 6, issued December 1, 1858. Prices £6,000 MM, and £180-110 Fine/Good used. Also comes with inverted watermark.

Thanks cjoprey and brightonpete. That solves my little mystery. Colnect and Stoneham are new to me. There are few things nicer than friends with libraries.

thegubman Now that is a beautiful stamp , the American expertisers PSE would no doubt describe it as “ Jumbo” . 😀 pity the poor person who has the one on the left in his collection 😰 going by so many of the lovely items you have posted I guess you are kind of focussed on the letter “G”. Graham ?

Yes indeed. I only collect line engraved lettered EG or GE my initials. That way it cuts down upon the large amount of material available and you can specialise to some extent. But to be honest just love the early issues and iconic image of Queen Victoria.
Regards Graham

Well my surname is “W “. So that rules out all line engraved with my initials...............Except a few halfpenny bantams 🤔

Another one off centre, look at the reverse with very prominent queens head showing through similar to the imperforate ivory head. Graham

Hmmm, I have missed this magnificent thread until now, obviously I am not able to keep as active as I would like on this forum. Great stamps and information, thanks to all for contributing. thegubman - I agree, it certainly looks like an ivory head. Sweet! Is that listed for this stamp? ( I don't have my SG available to check myself just now)

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

It seems whenever someone posts something it reminds me of something I have stashed away. Today it was the penny red on piece by darkormex . I do have a decent 2 pence with clear margins but have also kept this one on paper because I liked the nice early cancel. Sadly the stamp is cut close on 2 sides
