I've taken up a new topical collection. Anti-fascist art. Bidlo (Czech 2Kcs, my favorite of the bunch), was imprisoned in Terezin by the Nazis for his anti-fascist art, and died as a result, after having contracted diphtheria and spotted typhoid in prison. Capek (Czech 50h) of Bohemia, was placed in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. His remains were never recovered. He is the inventor of the word 'robot'. Professor Pelc, (Czech 4Kcs) left Prague in 1939 for France, but did not manage to avoid being sent to a concentration camp. He survived the Nazis and died in Prague at the age of 72. The single anti-fascist seals/stamps are from Spain.

Doe , congratulations on starting a new topical collection, and many thanks for starting this thread to showcase anti-fascist art. Normally, I am not a topical collector, so it is only ever just chance when I have stamps that fit into a topical thread, but this time, I have something that I bought expressly because I really liked the design. The Cinderella below was issued during the Spanish Civil War from 1936-1939. I have not spent too much time researching, but there were some other comments about this stamp, which is one of a larger set on another thread: thestampforum.boards.net/post/52524/thread

Chris, thanks for posting. Very nice! Compared to antifascista, what does antifeixiste mean? Never mind, figured it out. It's not Spanish, it's Basque. Cool!

Hi, Doe ! Actually, I think that the language is Catalan, the one that is native to Catalonia, where Barcelona is located. Not sure if that is the same as Basque....

I'm afraid, that Basque and Catalan are two very different languages. Basque, or "Euskera" in their language, is spoken on an area around the Western end of the Pyrenees. Comprises the Basque Country ("Euskadi" in Basque)and Navarra on the South side of the Pyrenees and Low Navarra and Iparralde on the North side. About 2 milion people speak Basque. It's, perhaps, the oldest Language in Europe. It can be more than 3000 years old. Catalan, spoken by about 11 milion people in Catalonia (NE of the Iberian península), València (E of the península), Balearic island, Andorra (where is the sole oficial language), the French Dpt. of Eastern Pyrenees and the city of l'Alguer in Sardinia. It's a language coming from Latin like French, Italian, Portugese, Romanian and Spanish, to name a few. It's the Language on which stamps from Andorra (both postal administrations) are written. I know all this very well, because my own language is Catalan and I use it for all my daily life. "Antifeixiste", wrongly written, as it should be "Antifeixista" means "Against fascist". The "fascits" were the Spanish army revolted against the democràtic governament of the Spanish Republic and supported by the Nazi Germany and the Fascist Italy. So, the name, was well deserved!
As a sample of Anti-fascist art,i'll show a cinderella, drawn by Fritz Lewy, who escaped from Germany in 1932, stayed for a while in Barcelona and died in Wisconsin. This cinderella (written as well in Catalan) was aimed for a Popular Olympiad to be held in Barcelona on July 1936 The militar upraising aborted it.
But if you want to see a lot of them you should go to this huge book (700 pages) on the Republican cinderellas of the Spanish Civil War. And I've told, there's a second eddition being prepared with even more items.

I don't know. But I have contact with the writer and editor. I've, even helped somewhat on the book. If you're interested I can ask him You would get a brand new edition, with some new findings. You know, this is a never-ending process! I've just realised that the olympic cinderella is also a flag one. I will post on that thread too-

I supose that this is "anti-fascist art". 1936/39 war. "Our duty? Smash fascism!". "CNT" stands for "Confederació Nacional del Treball" (National Worker's Federation) and "FAI" for "Federació Anarquista Ibèrica" (Anarchist Iberian Federation) Two sister anarchist organisations. They did some things good, but they were also responsible for a large number of murders of rightish and religious (catòlic) innocent people.
