Beryllium Guy my understanding of TWAIN is it works best with TIFF images and also is good for OCR, With PERFOMaster4000 I would use the standard version. I have the Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner which is TWAIN compliant. The standard version of PERFO defaults to .jpg images and works just fine, and with regards to PERFO there's no need for OCR that I can think of. it immediately recognized my scanner I do find PERFOMaster a bit buggy and it crashes periodically so I have to reopen and rescan, but once a color is 'saved" it's ibecomes part of the colortable.confiwhich I keep a backup on a separate drive

Beryllium Guy, I'm not sure the full context of the quote, so I will sort of ignore it. 32-bit or 64-bit will be determined by the computer architecture and the operating system, not the device driver. You install the device driver to match. You first need to find out which xx-bit version of Epson driver/utilities you have installed (quick way is to check Task Manager if you are using Windows), and then select appropriate the PERFOMaster4000 installer. ******* More reading if you are considering updating your driver... If you have 32-bit, and your machine/system is 64-bit and you would like to update to 64-bit drivers/utilities, then you should do so first, then download the proper PERFOMaster4000 installer. According to the Epson website, they do have TWAIN compatible device drivers/utilities for the Epson Perfection V19 that run on 64-bit machines/systems -- that is why I was confused by the quote. It could be that Epson is installing a 32-bit device driver/utility that is 64-bit compatible (that's what Canon does for my legacy copiers/scanners). Even if you update your driver, you should check again afterwards using Task Manager to verify whether the installed driver is truly 64-bit or still a 32-bit app that happens to be compatible with 64-bit machines. Once you verify, then select the proper PERFOMaster4000 installer.

Just a quick, belated thank you to Stan ( stainlessb) and Kim ( khj) for your helpful responses. I am taking a little hiatus today from stamp-related computer activities and instead doing something with actual stamps! If I have further questions, I will send a PM, as I do not want to turn this nice thread about color ID into Q&A on software and computer operating systems, which for me, will pose a challenge to thoroughly understand. Anyway, thanks again.
