Researching a newly acquired canoe manufacturer catalog, I realized I have this cover also. Dan

Hi Dan
I thought the canoes in Maine were all built in Old Town. Didn't realize Veazie had a manufacturer also. Interesting.

Here is another cover I just found amongst my catalog collection. This one is from the Peterborough Canoe Company in Peterborough, Ontario. The enclosed letter is dated May 5, 1936.

Here is one from the Thompson Brothers Boat Manufacturing Company, who had factories in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, and Cortland, New York. Obviously, this one was mailed from Cortland.

A new acquisition, though not a cover per se. The Kennebec Canoe and Boat Company was founded in 1909, and built their first canoes and boats in December of that year. This postcard, mailed 18 months later, advertised their presence at a sportsman's show. The 1-cent McKinley card has a nice Waterville and flag cancel. Waterville is where the company was located. Addressed to The Forks, it was received there the next day, and apparently forwarded on to Mosquito, Maine.

I received a couple more early canoe company catalogs in the mail today. Here is one of the covers that accompanied a 1901 Spalding St. Lawrence Boat Company catalog. Spalding St. Lawrence Boat Company was located in Ogdensburg, New York, and was the successor to the St. Lawrence River Skiff, Canoe and Steam Launch Company of Clayton, New York. The company was in business from 1895 to 1905, when it was bought and renamed the Leyare Boat Works.
