What I collect: Canada & French Morocco

Greetings to all from a new member.
As many of you probably did, collected as a kid - mostly Canada and assorted worldwide. Then left it in my later teens until 2 years ago, when I inherited the collections of my brother, father and both my grandfathers - all of which had spent the last 30 years in my father's attic. That collection consisted of my childhood Canada (still in the old Harris album!), my brother's US albums, my father's Germany and very nice Berlin collection, and my one grandfather's Scott Intl albums up to 1959, which were about 70% full, particularly well-filled for the earlier years. Not to mention the usual thousands stuck in glassines, stockbooks, on paper, etc...
Well, that sparked my interest again, and I've spent the last couple years sorting it, educating myself and generally having a great time with it all. So much to learn and so many fascinating avenues to investigate. Also been posting a bit on SCF (also as gmot). I'm located in rural SW Ontario about as far south as Canada goes.
My main collecting interests are Canada up to 1999 (which is now 98% mint complete), Cdn provinces, local postal history for my town/township, French colonies up to independence (African ones in particular), Germany/German states/occupations/Berlin up to mid-1970s, some South American countries (Ecuador especially), map stamps, and classic worldwide - up to 1959. I don't collect US and anything 1960+ outside of the countries I earlier mentioned. I'm have recently started the (very lengthy) process of moving my WW collection from the old Scott albums into homemade pages roughly based on Steiner, but using AlbumEasy to define the pages (great program!). I have used Lighthouse & Palo and like both them, but found them too pricey to use for all countries.
I'm a generalist rather than a specialist, so usually 1 of each stamp is good for me. Eventually, interested in trading/exchanging, as I have many duplicates & stamps outside my collecting interests and would like to (already!) consolidate a bit.
Thanks, Greg (gmot).

Sounds like you have a great Canadian collection. I have 98% in mine as well, but from just 1908-1983!

Greeting from the Nation’s Capital, Greg!
Like you, I am a bit of a generalist. I have a pretty good Canadian collection. I have a fair collection of Nova Scotia.
Looking forward to seeing some some of your collection.

Sharing a few pages from my collection. Of course, the vast majority of it doesn't look this nice or complete! I see the forum has specific sections for each country, so I'll post in those sections moving forward.
Canada page, showing the iconic Bluenose stamp (of course!). That's all in Lighthouse albums. Now working on slowly upgrading all mint to MNH and filling in remaining gaps. Within budget of course, a MNH $5 Jubilee is not in my future most likely.
Austria - Jubilee issue - an example of my home-made pages, using AlbumEasy for layout, following Scott order. I like pages clean and simple, so pleased with the results here. Originally was using Steiner pages, but didn't like the font used in them or how over-full some of the pages got. (My printer needs replacing however, "stutters" on the border lines.)
Some pages from my French African colony collection (mostly on Palo pages). French Africa was one of the strongest part of my grandfather's old collection, so a natural place to start and I'm glad I did - great, attractive stamps. I'm very fond of the colonial common series - as you can see - esp. the 1937 Colonial Exposition. Just bought the French Revolution set for Niger, which completes that country for me.
One thing I realize forgot to mention in my intro above - also very interested in old Balkans - e.g. Bosnia, Montenegro.
Thanks, Greg (gmot)

Hi Greg ( gmot) and welcome to the forum. Have fun and post often. Try to find an appropriate thread for those very nice pages you posted here and post again because they won't get noticed on this thread after a short time. Happy Collecting, Londonbus1

Am not hijacking gmot or Greg's thread but since he has been active since his arrival, I was noting that a lot of new members have joined our Forum (TSF) since this Summer. This is great and will always bring new "stuff" for us. Recently I noted that we have some "flyspeck" members on board and the microscopes are out !! I was looking at the "usage statistics" prior to my last giveaway.....wanted 100 posts and active people.....so I verified the "stats" to find out a great % of newcomers do not go beyond 10 posts or appear on line once a month. This does not represent a critique but an observation. I also found that 60-70 members met the criteria of 100 posts + active since June 2019. My say for the day..... René

Hi, Greg ( gmot)! Please accept my apologies for being very late to your welcoming party. Thanks for making your intro post, and for telling us all a bit about yourself and your collecting interests. Yours are not too far off from mine, in fact. I am hoping to get a bit more active again on the Forum, and will try to see more of what you having been posting over the past couple of months since joining. You are only two posts away from getting your full membership, which will be great. Anyway, please accept my belated welcome! Best Regards, Chris (aka Beryllium Guy)
