I would not no know, what the difference between fungus and mushroom is. In German there is only one word: "Pilz". I can asure you, that the one you had in your front-yard (and that on the stamp) have a very nice taste,as long as they are young and closed like the right one on the stamp. When they open up,they are still fine,as long as they stay white on the edge. Yours is rather old already. Then they become soft and blackish, producing "black ink". Because of that it is named in German: "Schopf-Tintling" (Schopf = shock of hair,Tintling = inking or inky cap) It is the favourite-"Pilz" of my wife.

Robert, I have to admit, that I am now more puzzled, than before. Why is then the shown "inky cap" (?) a fungus, but does not qualify as a mushroom ?
Anyway,here another set:

Here's a good definition: Mushrooms are the beautiful, delicate, lumpy, bumpy ‘fruiting body’ we see growing out of the ground or wood-they are the reproductive structures of fungi. Fungi is the entire organism. The mycelium (roots) and the mushroom (fruit). Some fungi do not ever produce fruiting bodies. All mushrooms are fungi, but not all fungi are mushrooms. Toadstools is a term for poisonous mushrooms.

Whether used in a risotto, stir-fry or even eat raw, viewing this thread always makes me hungry and Canada's contribution to the theme of mushrooms on stamps in no exception.
Designed by Ernst Roch, no stranger to Canadian Stamp design, these stamps were released in 1989.
Canada Mushrooms, 1989, 4 x 38¢ Scott n.º 1245 - Golden Spindles (Clavulinopsis fusiformis) Scott n.º 1246 - Bragger's Bolete (Boletus mirabilis) Scott n.º 1247 - Cinnabar Chanterelle (Cantharellus cinnabarinus) Scott n.º 1248 - Sponge Morel (Morchella esculenta)
Bon appétit and Happy collecting!

Great Timing Stanley64, I've been collecting Morels in my back yard this past week and sauteing them in butter each evening. The interesting thing is that I've never seen them on my property ever before in the past 40 years and now they're appearing. Global warming an influence? I have no idea but I'm also not questioning this serendipitous gift either. Rob
