I'm not sure about that, but if I were headed to Perth, I'd check out the Hutt River Province Principality. It's been around for decades, issuing its own stamps & currency. I have quite a few of their stamps & the first paper currency.

Well since you are interested in the land down under, Sherro might have some advice.

I visited Australia two yers ago. Bought a year album of their contemporary stamps as a souvenir. If I had an opportunity, would have bought far more stuff. Didn't think about the issue you are talking about. I've just put the album in my backpack and took it with me on the plane back home. There were no problems related.
As we say here where I live, "no brains, no worries".

Dan , I think you are worrying needlessly. The link you supplied did not work so I can’t see the details. I have bought stuff ( around AUD $200) from Aussies in the past couple of years . Sent in the mail once with customs declaration from a dealer I had to pay £10 duty to the UK customs but other modest amounts from private sales came through the regular mail no problem.
unless you are buying a major item from an auction house that has to be shipped overseas without Australian sales tax ,there is no problem in buying stamps or even a collection in Australia and taking it home in your stuff when you leave.
Just watch out going in to Australia they are very hot on the “NO AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS , NO FRUIT etc IMPORTS” eat it or bin it is the rule .

I bought a bunch of stamps & covers (by mail order) from HRPP last year. No issues, no tariffs etc. There shouldn't be any problems.

Dan ( gatodiablo), I hope that you will enjoy your time in Perth. I was there many years ago (1980s), and I loved it. If you find some good stamp shops, please make a post in this thread: thestampforum.boards.net/thread/4758/visit-stamp-store?page=2I cannot imagine any problems with stamps going through customs there. I bought a fair amount while there in 2008 and took them with me without any problems. I agree with the others, that it is most likely not a problem. But I also agree with Gavin ( feebletodix) that asking Dave ( sherro) is a very good idea. Enjoy your travels and post when you can!

Dan, Perth's a lovely city, you'll enjoy it! You'll have no problem taking stamps home, it's something you just don't need to worry about. If you post them home you may need a customs form, but I've only ever filled out two customs forms for box lots, never on an envelope, and I send overseas every day. **Disclaimer** - if you get arrested, I don't know you!
Be aware that all our banknotes are polymer. Slippery little suckers that look like Monopoly money to me. A word of advice, don't put them in your shirt pocket, they tend to have a life of their own.
Cheers
Dave

Thanks, all. I kind of suspected I might not need to worry, but I've found it never hurts to double-check.
