I understand the higher the MP the more one can zoom in before the image pixelates....
For stamp purposes, any thoughts on how much is enough?
A magnifying glass/loupe is just too difficult for my current state of eyesight.... <sigh>
I'm looking at getting a digital camera for my dissecting scope with T mount port (which has been in the closet for ~30 years and the Olympus OM-1 long since gone away). It works great for quickly looking at specific areas of stamps if I'm trying to determine "Types" or "States" or even plates (using the gauge from the Plating the Penny reference books. Much faster than the scanner, but it would be nice to put an image on the monitor to look at, rather than constantly taking my glasses on and off to look in the scope/ And also for clear close up images if I need to convey to another collector the detail as it pertains to a question (or I suppose a statement if I ever reach that level)!
There is a sizable jump in cost between 3 MP, 5 MP and 10 MP
I am looking at the Amscope cameras MU series (MA has limited software for OSX)
any thoughts /opinions most welcome

Prices have come down quite a bit. Most cameras, including cell phones have at least 12MP now. You could try your cell phone and see how that goes. You'll just have to have some sort of set up to mount the camera onto to get the clearest photo possible.
But the more mega-pixels, the larger the image.
If I were you, I'd start with the cell phone to see how that goes. That might just be enough, if you have a good camera on yours, that is!

My complaint with cell phones is three-fold (and I have i-phone 10 something or other....
1- getting it exactly parallel
2- waiting for it to transfer so I can see the image on something other than my phone
3- I cannot zoom in close enough with my cell phone
a year ago I thought it adequate.... now , not so much
