Hello Friends! This is my first post in the Forum, so please forgive me if I am breaking any rule. I have a strange situation in my collection and I would like to ask your opinion about it. Some years ago, I have bought two fragments of German Post Offices in China from a trusted dealer in the USA:  Some time after I bought two more pieces from a dealer in Germany:  Then I decided to compare both lots and for my surprise one fragment that came from Germany is identical to one coming from the USA. Is it common or might it be a forgery?  |

I do not collect Germany used abroad but have been a collector of Samoa for many years . I know that forgeries exist for all scarce early German era but my instinctive response is , perhaps naively , one of trust rather than jump to the suspicion of forgery. Experience more often than not allows me to get a feeling for fakery.
I do not have it here.
These obviously come as clips from parcel cards rated 4mk 85pf . If that is a correct parcel rate , and without the whole card computing weight and possible registration fee , one can’t be absolutely certain, There’s no reason why two parcels requiring the same postage rate make up couldn’t be made up on the same day to catch a ship mail due to sail . The stamp arrangement just suggests the work of the same postal clerk.
As the parcel cards cards were sent to the recipient who then had to surrender them in order to collect his parcel, they were retained by the PO in Germany, so there is no incentive for a sender to make them as a Philatelic used souvenir , as he might do with an over franked envelope or postal card .

You have seem to discover my deepest fear.
Not that both fragments were forgeries, but that they were philatelic used souvenirs.
Your response has helped me to eliminate this possibility by the mechanism of collecting the parcel cards by the German post.
Thank you very much for your help.
My Samoa collection is very little. African colonies and Post Offices abroad are more common here in Brazil than the pieces of the german presence in the pacific islands.

My Samoa collection is very little. African colonies and Post Offices abroad are more common here in Brazil than the pieces of the german presence in the pacific islands. Well if you ever find a cover Samoa to Brazil l’d be VERY VERY interested  |
