What I collect: Trying to focus just on Hong Kong. Wish me luck.

Hello! My name is Kristy and I'm in my 40s. I live in Central Oregon but spend lots of time in Chicago, where I grew up. I collected in my youth and recently have gotten back into the hobby as I was gifted all my uncles, my aunt, and my grandfather's collections (1890-1970, mostly). No one in my family has any interest in stamps so it's up to me to consolidate and preserve the collection.
I've decided to focus on Hong Kong stamps to begin, as that's where my family all lived and grew up. However, the collection has extensive quantities of stamps from China, Japan, Taiwan, and other SE Asian countries in addition to British colonies. I hope this forum will help me to identify some of the ones I'm having trouble with!

Hi Kristy! Delighted to have you join us! This is a very friendly group and there are some experts here who are VERY generous with their time and knowledge. Hong Kong is an excellent area in which to devote your time and funds. It is extremely popular and a good investment right now. Several of our members collect Hong Kong, too. For information - There are many excellent resources online, including online catalogs. I often use stampworld for modern Japan myself. Again, welcome from Terri in Florida.

Hi Kristy, and welcome to the forum. Fellow Oregonian here, although Portland rather than further east. And prior to this (in the early 90s) I also lived in the Chicagoland area. Well, DeKalb, which is close enough.
I'm looking forward to seeing some of your collection. This forum does boast quite a few knowledgeable philatelists in its ranks, so I'm confident that you will get some good answers. (I am, alas, not among the knowledgeable, but I have fun anyway.)

Welcome Kristy oregon1234 - from Oregon, evidently one of the few States I have not visited. You are probably the 2nd youngest member of this Forum so for many of us you are still in your youth Hong Kong is presently still part of my WW collection but I am not specialized and look forward to your participation, posts and scans etc. René Canada (New Brunswick Province)

Hi, Kristy ( oregon1234), and welcome to TSF! I have ties to Oregon, Chicago, and Hong Kong, so a trifecta of sorts! I am a US-expatriate who lived in France in 2018-2019, and recently relocated to the UK. I am a pre-1930 WW collector, but I have a special fondness for stamps from Hong Kong, having visited there several times in my life. Anyway, please enjoy your time with us! I look forward to your questions or images of your material or whatever inspires you.... All the best, Chris (aka Beryllium Guy)

Welcome! I think I have 2 maxicards from Hong Kong. Do you? Take a lot at the stamps in my avatar. Only 1 philatelist in the world, besides me, could replicate that image, with the same personalized stamps. He got them from me. You could design personalized stamps from Hong Kong, or PR China, in general. www.hongkongpost.hk/en/services/gift/heartwarming/index.html

Welcome! Nice to read that there are other Oregonians on the forum. I'm from the Eastern corner of the state, in Pendleton, but I'm a long-time member of the Oregon Stamp Society in Portland and I volunteer as the webmaster and newsletter editor of the Northwest Philatelic Library. Glad to have you aboard!
