Hi - started collecting as a kid with my father 45 years ago, mostly new stuff (at that time). I opened the old box and started again about 18 months ago. Being a history buff, I am most interested in the Small Queen (1870 - 1897) era:
- town cancellations, especially defunct post offices)
- fancy postmarks
- perforation populations
- oddities
- blobs, scratches, fly-specks...
I like buying lots/collections and spending time looking through the bunch for the items above - which is why I'm not focusing on re-entries and other major errors, as by the time the lots get into my hands, I am fully aware that most of the 'good stuff' has been culled. Still, I find it very interesting when I read the previous owner's pencil notations, and find so many mistakes (especially on perforations).
As I start into this hobby, I would like for my efforts to add to the body of knowledge for the small queen topic. If there was a way that collectors could work together (for example abut perforation population counts), then I am sure there are many discoveries that could be made.
Anyways, back to the jeweler's loupe

Welcome to the Forum, Chris from an ex-pat Living in Ottawa.
As a history buff, I collect stamps and covers with ties to Colchester and Shelburne counties. These counties are where my ancestors settled. Makes for a unusual collection.

Welcome. Great to have you with us. Looking forward to learn more about your studies on the perforations on the Small Queens. I've just had a go at them myself, and find it disappointing that the perf varieties are not covered in much more detail in Unitrade. Presume you have more insight, so it will be interesting to learn from you.
